Learn how to survive your shipwreck in Outward. This guide covers finding essential items like torches, Gaberries, and harpoons, plus tips for fighting hyenas and managing your inventory.
Walkthrough
- 1Leave no stone unturned when exploring the starting beach area.
- 2Locate and pick up the torch to your left, near the cliff face, to automatically equip it.
- 3Head towards the small bush on the beach, directly ahead from the wooden walkway, and loot it for Gaberries.
- 4Continue along the shore and loot tattered clothing (to prevent cold deterioration) and seaweed.
- 5Remove the tattered clothing in hot environments to avoid a heat debuff that causes all actions to consume 50% more stamina.
- 6Follow the small stream to the left until you find wreckage containing a harpoon. Loot the harpoon and drink from the stream to prevent thirst.
- 7Walk up and along the cliff ridge to find a brazier. Loot the bandages beneath it and any Gaberries to your left.
- 8Go to the tent at the top of the cliff edge and speak with Yzan Argenson. He will offer a bedroll. Do not sleep yet.
- 9Go to the beach area behind the cliff edge and loot the junk pile.
- 10If hungry, return to Yzan and eat the bread from the basket behind him.
- 11Head south-west from the tent until you see a stone archway. Go through it and to the left to find a pickaxe on the other side of the rubble where you found the harpoon.
- 12Return to the archway and loot the machete from the dead body slumped on a nearby rock.
- 13Head into the fields to the south, being cautious of two large hyenas. Drop any overburdening equipment, like the pickaxe, before fighting.
- 14Use the harpoon for its reach advantage over the machete. Equip your tattered clothing for light protection.
- 15Keep your distance from the hyenas until ready to fight. Draw one hyena away from the other to fight them individually.
- 16Use swift light attacks and evade the hyena's lunges with sidesteps or dodges. Avoid spamming attacks to conserve stamina.
- 17After looting both hyenas, pick up any dropped items.
- 18Return to Yzan and use the bedroll to sleep.
- 19Gather wood from trees by approaching and looting them (each loot provides 3 wood). Be mindful of carry weight.
Tips
- Don't loot every torch found on the beach, as their weight can add up and consume valuable inventory space.
- The tattered clothing prevents health deterioration due to cold but causes a 50% stamina consumption increase for all actions in hot environments.
- The awareness range of hyenas is high; maintain distance until prepared to engage.
- When fighting hyenas, wait for their lunge animation to evade and then strike.
- Conserve stamina to avoid incoming attacks, as it only takes a few hits to be killed at this point.
- When resting using the bedroll, note that resting depletes mana, increases ambush chance over time, and you can choose to guard to reduce ambush chances.
