Navigate the intense Gekko encounters in the marketplace and begin Act Three by tailing a resistance member in Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2.

The gate

As you continue towards the market, more Gekkos will arrive. You don't need to destroy them all, as Drebin continues to drive the Stryker. Focus on shooting as many Gekkos as possible to slow them down. The Stryker should take minimal damage.

002.8 - Marketplace

After surviving the tank scene, watch Raiden engage Gekkos. Afterwards, you must escape the marketplace as it's being destroyed. If your health is low, recuperate here. Head left under a stone overhang behind the first shops. Gekkos are present, but so are civilians, so avoid fighting them. Use chaff grenades to gain a brief window to dodge past the Gekkos.

Leave the overhang and head east. Avoid the alleyway as a Gekko will block it. Hug the north wall and roll past a Gekko on the corner. Jump the fence past the debris and pick up an M72A3 rocket launcher in a dead-end after the alleyway. Wait for a Gekko to clear a path by crashing through stalls to the east, then follow it. Duck into a small inlet on the south side before the Gekko stops, and let it walk back west. Dodge past it and dash for the exit. Roll past the final Gekko blocking the path to trigger a cinematic.

Following this hectic escape, a scene plays where Raiden fights Vamp, concluding Act Two.

003.0 - Act Three: Third Sun

Objectives:

  • Tail a resistance member to their headquarters in Midtown North.
  • Protect the van carrying the corpse of Big Boss.

003.0 - Mission Briefing

You can explore the aircraft with the MK.II. An iPod song and a battery are in their previous locations.

003.1 - Basic Strategies

This act primarily involves tailing a resistance member to their hideout. The route differs based on difficulty. The following tips apply to general stealth and evasion:

  • FaceCamo: If you have Laughing Beauty or another non-Snake FaceCamo, PMCs will ignore you, making evasion easier. However, equipping a weapon, running, rolling, going prone, or killing will cause PMCs to attack your current FaceCamo. This walkthrough assumes you only have the Young Snake FaceCamo.
  • Outfits: Ditch the civilian outfit. The Young Snake FaceCamo is nostalgic but unhelpful. PMCs will go on alert if they spot you in civilian clothes or OctoCamo due to the curfew. OctoCamo and FaceCamo offer 75-99% invisibility while prone.
  • Distance: Keep about a block's distance from the resistance member. Use the radar to track them. Staying back allows you to hide if PMC trouble arises without alerting the resistance member.
  • Signal Interceptor: Ignore the signal interceptor; the Solid Eye's radar combined with night vision is more effective for tracking both the resistance member and PMCs.
  • Combat: Avoid attacking PMC soldiers. If the resistance member is in danger, Otacon may advise rescue. It's often not worth the risk; another resistance member can usually be found. If combat is necessary, use a silenced weapon. The Mk2 is recommended, as an unconscious soldier won't alert others.

003.2 - Big Boss Hard

On Big Boss Hard, Act Three is more complex, with the resistance member taking a longer route through different areas.

003.21 - Midtown South Sector

Walk down the street until a cinematic plays.
