Learn about environmental objects in Left 4 Dead 2 like Propane Tanks, Gas Cans, and Fuel Cans. Essential for survival!

Propane Tank

The Propane Tank is an explosive can that can be carried by a Survivor, but must be dropped to use weapons. Shooting it causes an instant explosion. They are white and round and can be used as traps.

Gas Can

The Gas Can is another explosive can that must be dropped to use regular items. When shot, it explodes in a fiery blaze. It is a red gasoline bottle.

Oxygen Tank

Rarer than the Propane Tank or Gas Can, the Oxygen Tank explodes when shot after a few seconds, similar to a fuse. It is thin and green.

Fireworks Box

The Fireworks Box is an explosive can that deals significant damage to Infected when shot. It can only be found in the Concert Finale.

Fuel Can

During Scavenge games, Fuel Cans must be collected to win. They are orange and function similarly to Gas Cans, exploding when shot or detonated by a Spitter. More can be obtained at their starting location. It takes 2.5 seconds to pour fuel, and any damage interrupts the process. Untouched Fuel Cans have a white outline, while dropped ones have an orange outline. Explosions can scatter them.

Cola Six-Pack

Sold at Safe 4 Less convenience marts, the Cola Six-Pack contains six bottles of Cola with unbreakable bottles.

Gnome Chompski

Gnome Chompski is an invulnerable gnome. In "The Last Gnome on Earth", it must be carried all the way across the Campaign, and the level is only completed if it is being carried in the Safe Room.

Minigun

The Minigun is a stationary weapon that cannot turn a full 360 degrees. It takes a second to wind up before firing.

Machine Gun

The Machine Gun is a stationary weapon that is deadly against Common Infected within range. It can overheat if used too much. They are rare and often in inconvenient locations.

Ammo Cache

Ammo Caches completely refill ammunition levels and can be used multiple times by pressing the action key while looking at them.

Laser Sight Installer

The Laser Sight Installer increases the accuracy of a Primary Weapon and can be used more than once by pressing the action key while looking at it.

Doors

Doors slow down Infected, who claw at them instead of opening them. Survivors should close doors after passing through. Tanks and Witches can break most doors. Some doors lead to dead ends that may contain supplies or extra Infected.

Ladder

When climbing ladders, Survivors and Infected cannot attack or reload until reaching the top, bottom, or jumping off. Some ladder-like objects are only climbable by Infected. Reloading is reset after dismounting a ladder. Survivors are vulnerable while climbing.

First Aid Station

First Aid Stations are red, nailed to walls, and usually contain Pills or Health Kits. Ambulances serve the same purpose.

Footlocker

Footlockers contain an unlimited surplus of items like Pills, Adrenaline, or Grenades.

Cars

Cars with flashing lights alert the Horde if touched or shot. Tanks can throw cars. Trucks and Vans are generally safe and can serve as vantage points. Dumpsters, Bumper Cars, and other large objects can also be thrown by Tanks.
