It was first released in Japan on March 24, 2000, in North America on June 26, 2000, in Europe on June 22, 2001, in Brazil on July 12, 2001, in Australia on July 26, 2001, in Chile on November 15, 2001, and in New Zealand on December 10, 2001.

Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards was re-released on the Wii and Wii U Virtual Console in 2008 and in 2015, respectively. It was re-released on Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack in 2022.
