Small yellow stars are found on almost every course in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. You can see a meter below your energy meter (the HUD (heads-up display — the on-screen icons showing health, ammo and the minimap) element showing your health) that has 30 slots. Each yellow star you collect fills one slot. When this meter is full, you gain an extra life. The star meter resets when you turn off the game or experience a Game Over.
In addition to yellow stars, there are also green stars, which are worth three yellow stars; red stars, worth five yellow stars; and blue stars, worth ten yellow stars.
- You cannot collect stars when facing a Guard or a Boss.
