How to Beat Riftworm

Defeat the colossal Riftworm in Gears of War 2. Learn how to destroy its three hearts from within by clearing internal defenses like Nemacyst.

The Riftworm is not a traditional boss fight but a massive environmental encounter that requires teamwork and precise execution. You'll be inside the creature, attempting to destroy its three hearts. Phase 1: Entering the Heart Chambers. As you navigate the Riftworm's digestive tract, you'll encounter various internal defenses, primarily Nemacyst and polyps. Use your Lancer to clear these out. The main challenge is avoiding the digestive fluids and collapsing pathways. Stick together with your squad. Phase 2: Destroying the Hearts. Each heart is protected by a membrane and surrounded by polyps. To expose a heart, you must first clear the polyps around it. Once exposed, the heart will glow. This is your window to attack. Unleash all your firepower – Lancer, Hammerburst, Gnasher – into the glowing heart. After taking damage, the heart will retract, and more polyps will spawn. Repeat this process for all three hearts. The Riftworm will also try to dislodge you, so be prepared for quick-time events where you have to mash 'A' to hold on. Communication is key in co-op to ensure both players are focusing fire on the same heart. After destroying all three, a final cinematic sequence will play out, concluding this epic encounter.
