World Map

Learn how to generate your first world map in Dwarf Fortress with recommended settings for map size, history, civilizations, sites, beasts, savagery, and mineral occurrence.

For your first game, generate a new world using the Create new world option in the main menu with the following options:

1. World map size at Medium
2. History length at 100 years
3. Number of Civilizations at Medium
4. Number of Sites at Medium
5. Number of Beasts at Low
6. Natural Savagery at Very Low
7. Mineral Occurrence at Everywhere

When it's finished choose Play now, the game will save the world and then ask for a game type, choose Fortress. The game will then quickly simulate two weeks of world activity and then offer a tutorial.
