The in-game tutorial is a valuable resource for new players, recommended to be played through at least once. It assists in selecting a fortress location, assigning dwarves, and providing initial supplies. The tutorial then guides you through using the interface to 'strike the earth' and begin building your fortress. If a tutorial window obstructs your view of the interface, you can collapse it using the ^ button. To revisit any section of the tutorial or access non-interactive guides on various game aspects, press the ? button located next to the minimap.
