Morrie's Place (Monster Arena)

Learn how to photograph the Golden Slime, the Monster Arena itself, and Morrie at Morrie's Place in Dragon Quest VIII's Monster Arena side quest.

Alright, so you've heard about Morrie's Place and the Monster Arena, huh? It's a pretty unique spot in Dragon Quest VIII, and while the actual fighting part is a whole other beast (which we'll get to later!), there are some specific things you can do here related to Cameron's Codex. Think of it as a photo safari mixed with monster battling!

Before you can even think about stepping into the arena, you'll need to take care of a few business dealings outside. You absolutely *must* defeat three specific Infamous Monsters first. If you try to waltz into Morrie's Place without doing this, he won't let you in for the arena part of his quest. So, make sure you've taken down:

1. Slimey Smiles: These guys hang out near Castle Trodain.
2. Lonely Joe: You'll find him on the path leading to the Ruined Abbey.
3. Squiggles: Look for this one on the beach southwest of Pickham.

Once those three are out of the way, it's time to head back to Morrie's Place. Go up the ramp to the roof and have a chat with Morrie. He'll give you the green light to enter the Monster Arena. After a little scene, head back down and talk to him again to get inside.

Now, once you're in, take a look around. To your left, you'll spot a shiny Golden Slime chilling behind the bar. Whip out your camera and snap a picture of it – that's good for Codex entry 099: Monster Arena Golden Slime. After that, make your way through the barred doors and down into the actual arena space. Get a good shot of the whole setup for 041: Theatre in the Round. Finally, wander around the arena area until you find Morrie and his Bunny Girl. Take a picture of Morrie himself for Codex entry 126: Maestro of the Monster Arena.

That's it for the photography part of Morrie's Place! The actual monster battling and the side quest associated with it is a whole other ballgame, and we'll cover that in detail elsewhere. But for now, you've got your photos and you're ready to move on!
