Master the Dragovian Trials in Dragon Quest VIII with this comprehensive guide. Learn strategies for each boss, recommended rewards, and tips for success.
Walkthrough
- 1Return to the Lord of the Dragovians at the Heavenly Dais. Speak with him to initiate the trials and have your party healed.
- 2The trials consist of 6 distinct challenges, each featuring two boss battles. The first battle in each trial is always against a familiar foe, while the second is a new challenge.
- 3After completing each trial, you will be presented with a choice of six possible rewards. Ensure you obtain all of them by the end of the trials.
- 4The recommended order for rewards is: the equipment (Dragovian Sword, Dragovian Armour, Dragovian Shield, Dragovian Helm), followed by Memories Lane, and finally the legendary team monster Hev.
- 5The first battle in every trial is against the Lord of the Dragovians (Level 45, 3,000 HP). His attacks include Thin Air, Knuckle Sandwich, Lightning Storm, Dragovian Seal, Psyche Up, Meditate (heals for 500 HP), and Disruptive Wave.
- 6Trial 1 features the Vermillion Dragon (Level 45, 5,000 HP) as the second boss. Its attacks include Gigaflash.
- 7Trial 2 features the Emerald Dragon (Level 47, 8,250 HP). Its attacks include Bite, Critical Hit, Furious Roar, Burning Breath, Sweet Breath, and Venomous Mist.
- 8Trial 3 features the Silver Dragon (Level 49, 5,000 HP). Its attacks include Bite, Critical Hit, Cold Breath, Glint, Fizzle, Meditate, and Disruptive Wave.
- 9After completing the 6 trials, a Final Battle awaits.
- 10To unlock the Codex entry 137: Cloud-Dwelling Clan Leader, photograph the Lord of the Dragovians at the Heavenly Dais.
Tips
- It is recommended to reach Level 65 for these trials, though lower levels may suffice for earlier battles.
- Valuable items for these trials include Elfin Elixir and Timbrel of Tension.
- Consider crafting Catholicon Rings to protect against status ailments, especially for the Emerald Dragon battle.
- For the Lord of the Dragovians starter battle, focus on attacking immediately as he may use Dragovian Seal. Yangus should Psyche Up and attack, Angelo should Kabuff and heal, and Jessica should Oomph Yangus and use Timbrel of Tension.
- When fighting the Silver Dragon, be wary of Disruptive Wave, Glint, and Cold Breath. Limit Psyche Ups to once due to Disruptive Wave. Timbrel of Tension can be effective.
- Ensure your party is fully healed at the end of each battle, as their current HP and status will carry over to the next.
