Learn how to save your progress, resurrect fallen allies, cure status ailments, and remove cursed items in Dragon Quest VIII using the Church system.
Every Dragon Quest game has a Church system in which the player visits the church to perform various options, most notably Saving. Churches are located in nearly every town as well as a couple miscellaneous locations. Speaking to the person that runs the Church Service will bring up the below Menu as well as display remaining experience needed for leveling up.
Church Actions:
- Confession (Save): Allows you to save your progress to one of the two save files.
- Resurrection: Spend gold (based on the dead character's level) to bring a character back to life.
- Purification: Spend gold to remove the Poison / Envenomate status from a party member.
- Benediction: Spend gold to remove a CURSED item from a party member.
WARNING: Please be aware that you will be prompted twice when trying to Save. The first prompt will confirm whether or not you want to save. The second prompt will ask you if you want to continue your adventure. Selecting "No" will end the playthrough. The next time you continue will be from your previous save.
QUICK SAVE
Dragon Quest 8 (3DS) offers a unique Quick Save system compared to most other games. Traditionally a Quick Save will create a temporary Save file at that specific point in time and will suspend gameplay. Dragon Quest 8 (3DS) is different in that you can Quick Save + Continue Playing. The Quick Save File remains available until the next Quick Save is made. This feature can come in handy for various situations such as: Boss Battles, Casino Grinding, etc.
