Master the Karasuman boss fight in Castlevania Requiem: Symphony of the Night & Rondo of Blood. Learn strategies and weaknesses to defeat this unique foe.
The Clock Tower is the final new area of the castle, serving as a straightforward zone filled with secrets. It's inaccessible early on due to crumbling platforms, requiring the Bat relic and Gravity Boots for exploration.
The first room is a large, open space. The most crucial item here is the Fire of Bat Relic, located at the top right. This relic allows the bat form to shoot fireballs by pressing the square button, though the attack is slow and not very powerful. The rest of the room, particularly the bottom, contains consumable items and equipment generally weaker than what you possess. Notable items found include Magic Missile and Pentagram, tucked away on side platforms. Ice Mail, Bekatowa, and Shaman Shield are found in the middle of the room on individual platforms above flail guards. The Ice Mail is weaker than the Walk Armor, and the Bekatowa is weaker than the Ice Brand.
After exploring, proceed to the next room on the left via the bottom path. This room transitions from the exterior to the interior of a clockwork mechanism. The Leap Stone relic is necessary to progress, indicating the area is intended for later in the game. This first vertical room contains nothing of immediate value; move to the next room through the top-left door.
In the subsequent room, you'll encounter large, rideable gears and Harpies, which are more annoying than difficult. You can hit the gears with your weapon to make them rotate. Hitting a gear enough times will cause it to 'click.' Once it clicks, stop and move to the next gear, located below and to the right of the first. If you hit a gear after it has clicked, you must restart the sequence for that gear. After activating the two gears in this room, proceed to the next room on the left and activate its two gears until they click. Successfully activating all four gears opens a door to the left, beneath a pool of water, granting access to a secret room.
Inside the first secret room, you'll find the Steel Helm, Gold Mail, and a Star Flail. The Steel Helm offers a +1 defense bonus, while the other two items are inferior equipment. To find another secret room, leave and return to the vertical room. The wall on the top right is breakable; activating the Faerie familiar will reveal its hidden nature. Break the wall to enter the second secret room.
The second secret room contains more Flea Men and a cloaked knight at the top, who is easy to defeat. Both sides at the top of this area hold a Heart and a Life Max Up. Exit this room and proceed to the next room on the top-left.
The scenery changes to a more traditional castle environment with numerous random stairs, creating a labyrinthine feel. After jumping over the first stair, you'll encounter Sword Lords, which have a knight form and a ghost form. Four Sword Lords are found at the bottom of this room. Continuing left, you'll find another breakable wall leading to a third secret room containing the Healing Mail. This item slowly heals 1 HP after walking for a period, a neat but impractical concept. Leave this room and return to the area with the Sword Lords. Above the first two Sword Lords is a section of platforms; the wall on the right of this platform is breakable and contains a Pot Roast. Proceed to the next room on the top-left, using pendulums to reach the doorway.
This next room features many breakable walls. Above the entrance, a two-sided platform hangs from the ceiling; the left side's breakable wall contains TNT. Further in, down broken stairs, a wall contains a Bwaka Knife. The last hanging platform on the left has a Shuriken in its breakable wall.
The subsequent room contains the boss fight against Karasuman.
KARASUMAN
The Karasuman is a notably easy boss fight, primarily due to its susceptibility to knockback, a common trait in older games. Getting hit causes your character to be pushed back, and a subsequent hit can lead to continuous knockback.
