Navigate the Caverns in Castlevania, detailing enemy encounters, item locations like the zircon and Claymore, and boss strategies for Succubus and Scylla.
Walkthrough
- 1Upon entering the Caverns, find a zircon in a pot on the top left.
- 2Continue downward, avoiding Spear Guards. The room to the right of the two Spear Guards is a save room.
- 3After saving, proceed down, ignoring the left path.
- 4After passing a single Spear Guard, you will reach the final set of stairs.
- 5Locate a torch on the far left wall; a drop-off is between you and the torch.
- 6This drop will take you to the bottom. You need to reach the room on the right at the top of this drop-off.
- 7Transform into a bat and fly to the room on the right. Gravity boots can also be used but require more precision.
- 8Two torches on the left side contain bags of money.
- 9Transform into a bat again, fly down the drop-off, and enter the room on the right.
- 10This room contains candles.
- 11The next room has a pot containing a Claymore.
- 12Descend this room to the next room on the right.
- 13This room contains several meal tickets in pots. The last pot on the bottom right holds a Moonstone, an accessory that significantly boosts your stats.
- 14You will reach a dead-end with two rooms on the left and right. The left is a save room, and the right is a boss fight disguised as a save room. Enter the boss fight room.
Boss Fight: Succubus
- After viewing the cutscene (cutscene), you must fight the Succubus.
- The Succubus primarily stays at the top of the screen.
- Her impaling attack can be dodged by staying underneath her. The attack is easy to avoid due to ample space.
- She can duplicate herself across the top of the screen. You must hit her to eliminate all duplicates simultaneously. The knife sub-weapon is effective due to its attack path; jump and spam the knife to hit multiple copies.
- Attack her with spells, sub-weapons, and normal attacks while she is at the top of the screen. She is an easy enemy.
After Succubus:
- After defeating the Succubus, a post-battle cutscene plays, and you will exit the room automatically.
- You will reappear in the castle and find a gold ring on the ground. This is one of two rings needed for better endings. It cannot be equipped yet.
- Return to the large drop-off and drop all the way down.
- At the bottom of the drop is a save room.
- Outside the save room, platforms lead to an opening to the left for a dropdown. Take this path, dropping down and entering the next room on the right.
- This room contains the mini-boss, the Scylla Wyrm. It moves its head forward and back. A few hits will cause it to retreat, opening the next room.
- In the next room, water rises from the ground. Use the columns as platforms, run to the other side, and jump through the opening to the right to avoid significant damage from the water.
- Past the water and on higher ground, a pot on the right contains a pot roast.
- Walk to the left side of the room to fight the Scylla boss.
Boss Fight: Scylla
- The Scylla boss fight involves a three-headed dog with tentacles and a female body at the top.
- In front of the Scylla is a small pool of water with two columns that allow you to reach its level.
- Your first goal is to destroy the tentacles, which are the wyrms you fought previously. This makes it easier to approach the Scylla.
- The Scylla periodically summons water skulls that shoot at you. These can be destroyed with sub-weapons or normal attacks.
- After dealing with the skulls, approach the main body to attack.
- If you get too close to the main body, fragments will fall from the ceiling.
- Deliver a few hits then retreat. The best position is between the first column and the ground, allowing you to see incoming attacks and stay a safe distance from falling rocks.
- Focus on defeating the Wyrms first to get close enough to damage the Scylla with your normal weapon.
- Continue attacking the Scylla's health until it is defeated.
After Scylla:
- After defeating Scylla, you receive a Life Max Up.
- In the next room, you will find a Crystal cloak. The Blood Cloak is recommended over this one.
- Walk back to the drop-off.
- After dropping down, go right to a dead-end where you can now access due to the water receding.
- The Scimitar sword is in this dead end; it is an inferior weapon.
- Head back left, drop down, and grab the potion below the cliff.
Tips
- Transforming into a bat is crucial for navigating certain areas and reaching platforms.

- Be mindful of falling ceiling fragments during the Scylla fight and maintain a safe distance.
- The Moonstone accessory provides a significant stat boost.
- The gold ring is necessary for achieving better endings in Castlevania.
