Navigate the Basement and Floor One in Thief 2: The Metal Age. This walkthrough covers finding the Vault lock, collecting loot like gold plates and coins, and avoiding traps and guards.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
From the entry point, locate the metal hatch in the floor. Open it and crouch to drop into a metal tunnel.
  2. 2
Follow the tunnel east until it drops you into Floor One. Continue to the hatch at the far end.
  3. 3
Open the hatch and use a moss arrow to fall silently. Wait for the patrolman below to pass through the south door.
  4. 4
Drop down, turn left, and go through the north door into an L-shaped hallway. Pause at the metal door to the north-east.
  5. 5
Descend the stairs to the Basement, avoiding the Watcher camera and patrolling swordsman. Shoot out the torch in the corner to make it easier to avoid the camera.
  6. 6
At the bottom of the ramp, find a chest with a GOLD PLATE (worth 25 GOLD) and another chest with a flare.
  7. 7
Head south towards the Maintenance Area. Follow the passageway until you hear Children. Use darkness to hide from them or a long tunnel at the extreme south to bypass them. Be aware of two functional large Children at the tunnel's exit.
  8. 8
Continue north across metal floor sections until you reach a notice. Proceed into a new room.
  9. 9
In this room, avoid four trap tiles that conceal a Sentry. Jump over them or walk around them.
  10. 10
Around the corner, a ceiling camera is present. Reach across the passage to open the metal gate, duck inside, and turn off the lights with a lever to make dodging the camera easier.
  11. 11
Pull the other switch to enter the room where the Vault's time lock is located.
  12. 12
Look through the hatch in the ceiling to see the VAULT LOCK and a Watcher camera. Open the PANEL on the side and mash the protruding BUTTONS until the LIGHT turns from red to GREEN, releasing the LOCK.
  13. 13
(Note: The Vault is permanently unlocked after this.)
  14. 14
Mantle onto the top of the control panel and jump or lean forward to open the Vault door from under the hatch.
  15. 15
Return to the ramp where you first entered the Basement and take the tunnel going east.
  16. 16
In the first storage room on the right, find a CANDLESTICK (worth 25 GOLD).
  17. 17
Continue south to an elevated room with a window hatch. At the other side, find a ramp down to a ladder. Climb up to return to Floor One.
  18. 18
On Floor One, turn off the light to help avoid the rotating camera in the next room (unless Lobby cameras are disabled, in which case it's gone).
  19. 19
Deal with the patrolling guard in the larger room (he has broadheads).
  20. 20
In the east corner of this room, find another VASE (worth 50 GOODS).
  21. 21
Go through the north door into a corridor. Enter the office through the door on the facing wall. Inside, find COINS (worth 25 GOLD) in a safe and 24 more COINS on a desk, along with notes.
  22. 22
Go east along the outside corridor and turn left, facing north. You will see a purple-clad swordsman.
  23. 23
Knock out the swordsman. The locked door to your left leads to 19 STACKS OF COINS (worth 95 GOLD) and a BAG OF GOLD on the top shelf (may require leaning or jumping, use a box for assistance). Be cautious of noise.
  24. 24
The Meeting Hall is to the east. It contains a moss arrow and 2 CUPS (worth 30 GOODS) behind the bar.
  25. 25
Return to the tiled room where the guard was, then go west into another tiled room with a Sentry.
  26. 26
Avoid the hidden panel across the floor at the south door, which activates the Sentry. Jump over it onto the wooden floor of the corridor to the south.
