Learn about the conventions and notation used in The Quarry Part 2 walkthrough, including choices, consequences, QTEs, Interrupts, and character details.

This section explains the terms and layout used in the guide. It is important to read the subsection "Chapters, Sections, & Scenes" as it describes the notation used for identifying points in the game throughout this guide.

Paths

Paths are updated in the pause menu with various key decisions made. This guide does not strictly follow Paths as they do not describe all important choices and some described choices have little consequence. Notably, Paths do not track character infections, which have significant impacts later in the game. However, this guide attempts to denote where Paths are updated.

Don't Breathe events

These are events where the player must hold a button to hold their breath to hide from something. The button must be released in one of the safe spots, usually one towards the end, though some events have two. If the button is not released at all, it counts as failing the event.

Shootout events / Shootouts

These events involve the player aiming and firing a gun. There may or may not be a target. Outcomes include shooting and hitting, not shooting, and shooting and missing. Missing may result in slightly varied effects but is otherwise the same as not shooting. Most Shootout events allow one or two shots.

QTEs

This term is sometimes used to encompass Don't Breathe events, Shootouts, and time-limited choices.

Interrupts

While most choices involve selecting from two or more options within a time limit, Interrupts are presented as a single option with a time limit. Allowing the time limit to expire means not performing the action. Interrupts are related to an Achievement/Trophy.

"Exploring" Scenes

In some Scenes, the player controls a character to explore an area. These Scenes end when the player performs a certain action, which must be avoided if the player wishes to perform other actions first. Scenes featuring exploration are often titled "Exploring ...", with the ending action detailed under the title.

Clue Entries

The game features discoverable Clues, Evidence, and Tarot Cards. Clues are composed of Clue Entries, sometimes called sub-clues, displayed on the right of the Clues screen. The first Clue Entry of each Clue is unlocked by default. Additional Clue Entries may be locked and are unlocked by reaching certain game points, discovering associated Clues, or sometimes Evidence. Most Clue Entries unlock automatically as the game progresses, but some require specific conditions.
