Discover advanced glitches in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, including the Save Game Glitch, Zora Evolution Glitch, and how to enter Sakon's Hideout alone.
This section details several advanced glitches and techniques for The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask that can alter gameplay mechanics or provide access to unintended areas.
Darker Termina
This effect doesn't have a significant gameplay impact but can alter the visual appearance of Termina. While in Zora Link form, swim in water and activate Zora Link's shield. While still shielding, remove the Zora Mask. This will cover the world in a dark blue fog, the intensity of which depends on how long Zora Link held his shield. The fog dissipates over time, at night, or when using the Song of Time, Song of Storms, or performing a Spin Attack.
Save Game Glitch
This glitch allows Link to retain item usage after saving and restarting. First, obtain Epona and Epona's Song. Call Epona, equip the Goron Mask, and then save at an Owl Statue in the Southern Swamp or Milk Road. Upon restarting, Link will remain on Epona but will be able to use his items.
Go to the Romani Ranch Without Explosives
This is a variation of the Save Game Glitch. Activate the Save Game Glitch, then equip the Zora Mask and activate the glitch again. Ride Epona to the boulder blocking the Romani Ranch entrance. Remove and re-equip the Zora Mask while facing the boulder. When Link begins to float, press the button assigned to the Great Fairy's Sword to pass through the boulder into the ranch.
Zora Evolution Glitch
A side effect of entering Romani Ranch without explosives. If Link dismounts Epona after this glitch, his fins will shrink and become stronger than the Razor Sword but weaker than the Gilded Sword (approximately 2.5 times the strength of the Kokiri Sword). This glitch requires Link to not have the Kokiri Sword.
Enter Sakon's Hideout Alone
To enter Sakon's Hideout without Kafei, approach the entrance cavern. Look for small pits and cracks where the large rock meets the mountainside. Equip the Bunny Hood and run into these gaps. You may need to carefully rub against the wall to find a spot where Link moves at a higher speed, causing the camera to twitch. Alternatively, take a running jump at the gap. Holding Left or Right while entering the gap can help depending on which side you use. If successful, Link will pass through into the hideout. Falling into the gaps may result in falling into a bottomless pit. Once inside, Link can use Goron Link to trigger the switch in the first room and roll through the door, though passing through this door alone has not been successfully documented.
