How to Beat The Rat King (Abby)

Learn to defeat the horrifying Rat King boss in The Last of Us Part II. Master Abby's flamethrower and shotgun tactics against this fused Infected.

The Rat King is the most terrifying and unique Infected boss in the game, encountered by Abby in the 'Ground Zero' chapter. It's a massive, multi-limbed creature composed of several fused Infected.

Phase 1: Main Body

• Weapons: Flamethrower, Pipe Bombs, Shotgun.
• Strategy: The Rat King is incredibly durable. Your primary goal is to deal enough damage to force it to shed its components. Keep moving constantly, using the environment (pillars, corridors) for cover. Use the Flamethrower to deal continuous damage. When it charges, dodge sideways. Throw Pipe Bombs when it's close.

Phase 2: Separated Components

• Weapons: Shotgun, Hunting Pistol, Crossbow.
• Strategy: After taking enough damage, the Rat King will split into a large Bloater-like component and a fast, Stalker-like component.
• Bloater Component: Treat this like a regular Bloater. Use the Flamethrower and Shotgun. Keep your distance.
• Stalker Component: This is fast and will try to ambush you. Use Listen Mode to track it. Shotgun blasts are effective at close range. Prioritize taking this down quickly as it's more agile and harder to hit.

General Tips

• Resource Management: Ensure you have full health, plenty of Flamethrower fuel, and Pipe Bombs before this fight.
• Movement: Constant movement is key. Never stay in one place for too long.
• Listen Mode: Crucial for tracking the Stalker component.

Defeating the Rat King is a test of endurance and resourcefulness. Stay calm and focus on one component at a time.
