Navigate the treacherous Abyss of Thor in Tales of Phantasia! Get step-by-step guidance, boss strategies, and essential spell deactivations to defeat Dhaos.

Alright, so you've arrived by boat, and Klaus is about to summon Undine to take you down to the bottom of the sea. Once you're there, head into the building right in front of you and slightly upwards. Inside, you'll spot something shiny on a desk – grab the Deck of Cards. Now, head south, go down the stairs, and to the right, you'll find a Memory Circle. Save your game here! Then, examine the area just to the left of the door. You'll get access and can enter.

Make your way around to the left to reach the next area. Before you proceed, make sure Arche and Klaus have Indignation and Luna ready, respectively. Head down to encounter a Blue Ropper, and then you can keep going south towards some treasure chests. Most of them are empty, but keep going along the left side until you find one containing the Common Key. Now, you'll need to use this key on the doors. Be warned, figuring out which door is the right one is a bit of a puzzle, as it's random! One door will send you back outside, forcing you to start the key hunt all over again. Another option is a chest that holds the God Breath spell for Arche. The third door is the one you want – it leads onward, and you'll know it because there's a Memory Circle right after it. My usual strategy was to try the left doors first to snag Arche's spell, and then the middle ones to find the door leading to the Memory Circle. Hopefully, that works out for you too!

Once you're in the area with the Memory Circle, save your game because a boss fight is coming up. For this fight, keep Arche's Indignation ready, Mint should focus on healing, and Klaus should have Luna and Maxwell active. After the battle, you'll receive a Contract Ring, the Diamond Ring. Make sure to equip it on Klaus, as it'll boost all his stats significantly. Get your party ready for a tough fight!

Make sure Cress has the Blade Storm and Lightning Bolt special attacks equipped. Also, equip the Gorgon Amulet to protect yourself from stone paralysis.

Now, let's get your spells set up correctly. Deactivate the following spells:

  • Mint's: Deep Mist, Pow Hammer, Silence, Acid Rain, Dispel, and Delay. These won't be helpful in this particular fight.
  • Klaus: Only leave Luna and Maxwell activated.
  • Arche: Only leave Indignation activated.

Finally, set Klaus's and Arche's tactics to 'Call many Spirits' or 'Use many spells.' This will make them cast frequently, helping you defeat Dhaos as quickly as possible.

Head north and you'll encounter a machine. It will ask if you need 1. Time Warp or 2. Medical Treatment (to heal yourself). Choose the 'Time Warp' option and brace yourself for the real fight. Thor will resurface, and there's not much you can do at this point except save again, just in case, because the next battle is notoriously difficult. Go back to the machine and select 'Time Warp' once more.
