Walkthrough
- 1The Waterfall Ride: Right after the cutscene, Mario starts swimming down a waterfall. You can move left and right, and pressing the A button lets you swim upwards a bit. Keep an eye out for holes in the river – falling into these will take you into little caves.
- 2Cave Exploration (Optional): There are a few caves you can enter along the waterfall. The first one doesn't do much. The second cave on the left path will net you a Flower Tab. The second cave on the right path will cost you five coins. The third cave on the left path has a Frog Coin, and the third cave further down the left path gives you another Flower Tab. It's up to you if you want to take the time to watch these little cutscenes, but they can offer some nice rewards. After exiting a cave, you'll pop back out into the river to continue your descent.
- 3Barrel Jumping: As you get closer to the end, the minigame shifts to jumping between barrels. This looks simple, but there's a trick to maximizing your coin haul. Don't always jump off the current barrel! If the barrel ahead of you has more coins in its path than the one next to it, just stay put. You can actually collide barrels to take the path with more coins. If the next barrel *does* have more coins in its path, jump just as you get close to switch over.
- 4Dodging the Fish: Making the barrel jumping tricky are the fish swimming up and down the river. The ones swimming upwards are usually easy to hop over. The real danger comes from the fish swimming *up* from behind you. If you see one of these, quickly steer to the opposite side of the river to let it pass harmlessly. Getting hit by a fish will cost you five coins, so stay alert!
