Learn Shadow's moves like Chaos Spear and Chaos Boost, plus vehicle details and upgrades like Air Chip for 100 Rings in Sonic the Hedgehog.
Walkthrough
- 1Shadow possesses a Homing Attack and a kicking attack similar to Sonic, but also has Chaos Spear to stun enemies.
- 2He can use various vehicles, some of which are required for progression.
- 3More powerful Chaos moves are available with Chaos Boost when his Action Gauge is full.
- 4The Action Gauge starts at zero or resets after a loading screen and is filled by defeating enemies or grabbing a Gauge Up Item Box.
Basic Moves:
- Homing Attack: Press the Jump Button during a jump. This has a longer range than Sonic's.
- Chaos Attack: Press the Jump Button after hitting a Homing Attack (tap up to 5 times). Use this for enemies requiring multiple hits, as Shadow performs a series of mid-air kick attacks.
- Spin Kick/Tornado: Tap the Attack Button. This throws a spinning kick. Pressing it three times while standing still creates a tornado that damages surrounding enemies.
- Chaos Spear: Press the Attack Button during a jump. Fire electric bolts that shock and suspend enemies temporarily, paralyzing them. This move allows for a controlled fall, useful for grabbing Silver Medals. You can stop mid-air after using Chaos Spear, but not after a Jump Dash.
Upgrades:
- Light Dash: Press the Attack Button near a path of Rings. This is identical to Sonic's Light Dash.
- Item Name: Air Chip
- Price: 100 Rings
- When Available: Before Act 2: Kingdom Valley. This item is needed to continue the story.
Chaos Boost Upgrades: Use the Special Action Button.
- When you acquire the first Memory Shard Upgrade, Chaos Boost can be activated with the Special Action button if the Action Gauge is full. Shadow will glow red, and the Action Gauge will deplete slowly. If it reaches zero, Chaos Boost ends. Defeating enemies during Chaos Boost can help maintain the gauge.
- A Boost Level gauge indicates the upgrade level. With Red and/or Black Memory Shards, pressing Special Action again during Chaos Boost increases the Boost Level to activate Chaos Lance (Boost Lv. 2) and then Chaos Blast (Boost Lv. 3). This increases the Action Gauge depletion rate.
- Warning: Chaos Boost severely decreases the range of Jump Dash, which can be problematic in areas requiring long jumps. After using Homing Attack on one enemy, Shadow might drop straight down if no other enemies are nearby.
- Chaos Snap: Hold the Attack Button (Boost Lv. 1). Instantly warps in front of up to five enemies for a chain of attacks. This is an automatic Homing Attack Chain. If not around many enemies while in Chaos Boost, it can be problematic. For multi-hit enemies, you need to start tapping the Attack Button to initiate Chaos Attack.
- Item Name: Memory Shard (blue)
- Price: 500 Rings
- When Available: Before Act 2: Kingdom Valley. This item is needed to continue the story.
- Chaos Lance: Press the Attack Button during a jump (Boost Lv. 2). Fire Red Chaos Spears to destroy enemies. Activate Boost Lv. 2 by pressing Special Action again during Chaos Boost. This creates a red Chaos Spear that deals a single hit and stuns larger enemies.
- Item Name: Memory Shard (red)
- Price: 6000 Rings
- When Available: Before Act 5: Radical Train.
- Chaos Blast: Jump then hold Special Action (Boost Lv. 3). Wipes out everything within a close proximity. Activate Boost Lv. 3 by pressing Special Action twice during Chaos Boost. To use Chaos Blast, jump, then hold Special Action to charge. It kills anything nearby, including bosses (though not completely).
- Item Name: Memory Shard (black)
- Price: 10000 Rings
- When Available: Before Act 7: Wave Ocean.
Vehicles:
- Press the Mount/Dismount Vehicle button (Y or ^) to enter and exit vehicles.
- A damage bar appears when in a vehicle. If the vehicle explodes from damage, you can usually get another one without Shadow taking damage or losing Rings.
- Vehicles have an ammunition gauge that reloads over time or when not in use.
- Buggy: A sturdy ground vehicle. Accelerate with Jump, Turbo with Jump x2, Brake/Reverse with Attack, Steer with Left Stick, and use Homing Missile with Special Action. Ammo: 2.
- Bike: Faster than the buggy but more easily damaged. Accelerate with Jump, Turbo with Jump x2, Brake/Reverse with Attack, and use Machine Gun with Special Action. Ammo: 100. Steering is difficult.
- Glider: A light and agile aircraft. Accelerate with Jump, Turbo with Jump x2, Steer and Adjust Pitch with Left Stick, and use Homing attack with Special Action.
