Painkiller Part 12 monster guide covering Evil Samurai, Executioner, Freak, Ghost, Hell Angel, Hell Biker, and Lepper Monk.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Monk: These basic enemies appear in three variations. The melee version attacks with an axe when close. The ranged version throws its axe, which is slow and easy to avoid, and may cause the monk to become weaponless and die immediately. A third, late-game version throws fizzing bombs that do big damage if not avoided and also wield flamethrowers. Monks in Hell, the final level, are almost invisible.
  2. 2
Evil Samurai: These very fast enemies deal horrible damage up close, often charging with swords. They also have ranged fireball and ice attacks, and can pull you towards them. They are rarely found alone. It is recommended to freeze and shotgun them. Be aware of their kamikaze (or seppuku) attack, where they bend down and explode in a burst of ice, which is highly destructive. When a samurai breaks its sword/staff after being hit with one stake, get away quickly. They can also be tricked into attacking each other; position yourself so a fireball intended for you hits another samurai, potentially causing it to fight its ally.
  3. 3
Executioner: These appear as lumbering grunts but deal big melee damage if they get close. They are not found in large groups but are tough if you have low freezer ammo. Some throw axes or use their double painkillers to pull you in for melee attacks. Prioritize taking them out before other creatures, as they can hack fallen comrades, releasing spiders that grow in size. Executioners are considered the second most dangerous non-boss monster. While hitting their orange bellies with the stakegun is satisfying, using the freezer is recommended. If you freeze them as they throw their painkillers, the warheads stick to walls, and the beam remains, causing damage if you pass through it. Executioners' souls are worth 6 health points and are colored red, not green.
  4. 4
Freak: These enemies are slow and weak unless their heads are sparking with electrical current, in which case they can do serious damage if they detonate themselves up close. Their slowness makes them vulnerable to any weapon. They are also good for being hit by your painkiller's warhead (causing you to be pinballed around). The manual states their souls make you lose a health point instead of gain one, but this is rare and only occurred twice for one contributor, accompanied by a lack of the usual soul pickup sound.
  5. 5
Ghost: These rare monsters cannot be harmed but can harm you slightly. Avoid them. They sometimes die when you move to the next checkpoint (an auto-save point you restart from on death), adding to your kill count.
  6. 6
Hell Angel: These are more than basic soldiers, throwing molotov cocktails and some equipped with rocket-launchers. They appear in medium-sized groups and take time to defeat. They are not very fast, but can be dangerous up close with their tazers, especially in confined areas like the Prison.
  7. 7
Hell Biker: Initial versions may chaingun you until out of ammo and have a headbutt attack. Later versions appear as fat, drunken dock workers; some belch poison gas, some attack with pipes, and others fire shurikens in bursts of four.
  8. 8
Lepper Monk: These rare enemies are initially invulnerable. They hurl corpses of vanquished enemies as ammunition. Once they run out of corpses, they fling their staffs, becoming vulnerable to damage. They can also use their staffs to bounce you away from a distance.
Tips
  • When facing Evil Samurai, freeze them and use the shotgun.
  • For Executioners, use the freezer weapon and prioritize eliminating them before other enemies.
  • Be cautious of the Evil Samurai's kamikaze attack; retreat immediately when they break their weapon.
  • Try to make Evil Samurai attack each other by positioning yourself strategically when they use ranged attacks.
  • If you freeze an Executioner as it throws its painkillers, the resulting beam can damage you if you pass through it.
  • The Executioner's red souls grant 6 health points.
  • Freaks are slow and vulnerable, making them easy targets for most weapons.
  • Ghosts are rare and can be avoided; they sometimes contribute to your kill count upon reaching a checkpoint.
  • Hell Angels can be dangerous in close quarters with their tazers.
  • Lepper Monks become vulnerable only after they have thrown all their corpse ammunition.
