Learn how to save your progress in No Man's Sky using your starship, Save Points, or Save Beacons. Discover crafting materials and blueprint locations.
In No Man's Sky, saving your game isn't done through the options menu but rather through in-game actions. The primary methods involve interacting with your starship or constructing specific devices. You can also load your last auto or manual save from the options menu.
Saving with Your Starship
Once your starship is repaired, exiting it will automatically create a manual save, indicated by a "Restore point saved" notification. While auto-saves occur, it's crucial to rely on manual saves after significant progress, as there's no support for multiple manual save files. Only save manually when you are sure you want to keep your current progress.
Constructing Save Points and Save Beacons
If your starship is unavailable, you can build a Save Point or a Save Beacon. The Save Point requires 2x Metal Plating and 1x Di-hydrogen Jelly. The Save Beacon requires 2x Metal Plating and 15x Sodium Nitrate. Both can be stored in your inventory. The Save Point is a basic device that allows you to save by interacting with it after placement; it can be deconstructed and picked up. You receive the blueprint for the Save Point from the Base Computer.
The Save Beacon functions similarly for saving but also serves as a navigation waypoint. You can keep a Save Beacon permanently and customize its appearance. Up to 5 Save Beacons can be placed per planet, useful for marking points of interest across large distances.
Crafting Materials
| Save Point | Save Beacon |
|---|---|
| Metal Plating 2 | Metal Plating 2 |
| Di-hydrogen Jelly 1 | Sodium Nitrate 15 |
Save Beacons are particularly useful at small outposts, such as crafting farms or near Trade Outposts, allowing quick travel to new starship acquisitions or to check trade stock. They are also recommended for Abandoned Buildings where valuable resources like Whispering Eggs can be found.
To quickly reach a placed Save Beacon, fly to the planet's orbit, locate the beacon on your compass, and use the Pulse Engine. If you don't have the Save Beacon blueprint, you can purchase it for 1x Salvaged Data from the Technology Modules merchant at the Anomaly.
