How to Get a Hood in NMS

Trigger the Mission: Use your Starship's Pulse Drive. Random encounters can trigger the 'Under a Rebel Star' mission when you encounter an Emergency Broadcast. Keep encountering random events until it appears.

Defeat Pirates: After accepting coordinates from an abandoned starship's communicator, travel to the indicated star system (marked with a skull icon). You will be attacked by pirates upon arrival. Ensure your Starship has good upgrades, especially for shields and weaponry. Keep Sodium and Sodium Nitrate handy to recharge your shields.

Recover the Beacon and Fight Sentinels: Travel to the planet indicated by the coordinates. Use your Analysis Visor to find the crashed starship site. Interact with the quest-marked pod to get a cockpit recording and the rendezvous beacon. Sentinels will attack; defeat them and collect their dropped supplies.

Find the Derelict Freighter: Use the rendezvous beacon from your inventory to locate a nearby derelict Freighter. You will be attacked by another group of pirates. Defeat them to receive a message from outlaws. Choose to "Challenge the caller" when prompted. You can explore the Freighter before proceeding.

Reach the Voice of Freedom: The coordinates from the caller will lead you to a planet and a building marked as the 'Voice of Freedom'. Enter the building and interact with the terminal to receive a 'Ticket to Freedom' item. Use this item to locate a point in another star system, which will lead you to an Outlaw Station.

Receive the Hood: At the Outlaw Station, speak with several Outlaws who identify as the 'Voice of Freedom'. They will invite you to join them, and you will receive the Shroud of Freedom hood.

Equip the Hood: After visiting the Outlaw Station, you can return to a regular space station and use the Forged Passport to clear your name. The Shroud of Freedom hood can then be found as the 19th option in the Head category of any Appearance Modifier.
