Learn how to farm essence and karma in Ninja Gaiden 4. Discover re-spawning enemy locations and Muramasa's shop prices.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
    Identify areas with re-spawning enemies.
  2. 2
Defeat enemies and collect the Yellow Essence they drop.
  3. 3
Utilize Ultimate Techniques (UTs) to double essence intake.
  4. 4
Consider equipping the Armlet Of Benediction (once obtained) for twice the money in less time.
  5. 5
For an alternate, less recommended method, exploit Enemy Ambushes by leaving the last enemy alive and resetting the encounter. Note that this method forfeits Karma points.

Areas with Re-spawning Enemies:

  • Chapter 1 - Dojo Room
  • Chapter 4 - Twin Serpents Plaza/Dworku Alleyway
  • Chapter 4 - Clock Tower Square/Clock Tower Stairway/Clock Tower Base
  • Chapter 6 - Han's Bar (re-spawns throughout the entire game)
  • Chapter 6 - Moat Road
  • Chapter 9 - Chamber of Everlasting Sleep
  • Chapter 10 - Drawbridge Square/Moat Road/Dworku Alleyway
  • Chapter 12 - Aquaducts 2B near Electric Worm Room/Peristyle Passage
  • Chapter 13 - Moats/Flooded Monk Chamber
  • Chapter 15 - Stairway to the Imperial Palace
  • Chapter 16 - Drawbridge Hill/Moat Road/Clock Tower Square
  • Chapter 17 - The Labyrinth
  • Chapter 18 - Palace Compound/The Core/Great Bridge Square
Tips
  • Farming essence involves killing enemies, collecting Yellow Essence, leaving the area, and returning to repeat the process.
  • A successful farm encounter can yield 2,000 to 10,000 essence.
  • Muramasa's shop items can range from 500 Essence up to 15,000 Essence, with weapon upgrades also available.
  • When farming, use UTs to maximize essence collection.
  • The Armlet Of Benediction doubles money received when farming.

Karma Scoring:

Karma is a score received for completing chapters and defeating enemies/bosses. The HUD (Heads-Up Display, showing game information) displays KARMA, COMBO, KILL, and TIME for each encounter.

Scoring Patterns:

  • Combos: 10 points per hit. A successful combo without getting hit multiplies by ten (e.g., a 15-hit combo is 150 points).
  • Essence Technique Level 1: 2,000 points if the technique successfully hits an enemy.
  • Ultimate Technique Level 2: 5,000 points if the technique successfully hits an enemy.
  • Kill Bonus: Varies from 50,000 to 150,000 points if enemies are defeated within the Time Limit.
  • Non-Kill Bonus: 1,000 points per enemy if the Time Limit is not met.
  • Time Limit Bonus: 10,000 points awarded if enemies are defeated within the Time Limit, in addition to the Kill Bonus. Each encounter is timed only once.

Spamming for Karma:

  • This involves exploiting enemy weaknesses by repeatedly using Ultimate Techniques during an encounter to gain significant points.
  • Five successful Ultimate Techniques (worth 25,000 points) are generally better for karma than a 50-hit combo (worth 500 points).
  • High Karma scores on leaderboards are often achieved by spamming Ultimate Techniques.
  • Note that skipping an encounter and returning later forfeits any Karma score for that encounter.
