Welcome to the Dead Dunes! This harsh desert region is home to Ruffian, a major settlement and hideout for the bandit group Monoculus. You'll find all the usual shops here, plus an item appraiser who can identify those mysterious items you've been collecting. Keep an eye out for sandstorms blocking your path; you'll need to find and activate nearby monuments using a Pilgrim's Crux to clear them.

As you explore, don't forget to slay any Lizards you encounter for their tails and potential items. The area north of Ruffian is Atomos’s Sands, where deadly Earth Eaters roam and a shrine awaits. To the east is the Grave of the Colossi, another shrine location. To the west, you'll find the Dry Floodlands with another shrine, and the Oasis Lighthouse, where an NPC offers a quest and various items are scattered around.

In the South Dead Dunes, the station serves as a central hub. While not directly marked, you'll find an Outfitters and General Store nearby. The vast Giant’s Sandbox dominates the south, populated by sneaky enemies. Be particularly wary of the Desert Sahagin, as they're fast and can chase you relentlessly.

You'll find three entrances to the Temple Ruins in the south, along with numerous Red Cactuar Stones for fast travel. A word of caution: avoid suspicious black spheres until much later in the story (Day 12 onwards). These are Aeronite, one of the game's most formidable adversaries.
