Learn how to defeat the Gurangatch, stop the sandstorm, and start the Old Rivals and Tools of the Trade quests in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII.

Alright, let's get this done! You'll start off heading towards a waypoint marker. As soon as you reach it, a Gurangatch is going to spawn in. Don't sweat it, just take it down and grab the Crux from its corpse. This is key, as Lightning will use it to put a stop to that annoying sandstorm.

Once the storm clears, you'll want to follow Adonis. He'll use a shortcut to get you back to camp, saving you a long trek across the Dead Dunes.

Back at camp, your next move is to chat with Tobias at the General Store. He'll kick off the quest called “Old Rivals.” After that, head inside the main building and go up the stairs. Find a strange kid named Elmer and talk to him to start “Tools of the Trade.” Seriously, do this quest! It's super useful because once it's done, Lizards and Skeletons will drop items that Elmer can appraise for you, netting you some extra cash.

After you've sorted out those quests, follow the walkway to grab the sphere containing the Gurangatch Notes. Then, jump down and head towards Adonis. Speak with him, and he'll give you your rewards: 1500 Gil, Monoculus Mask, HP +100, Strength +4, and Magic +8. He'll then take you to meet a boss who's an old friend. She'll join your party, and with her help, you won't have to worry about monsters in the desert anymore (unless it's an Earth Eater, those guys are still a pain).
