Master Homeworld 2's fighter classes! Learn tactics for Scouts, Interceptors, and Bombers, including their strengths, weaknesses, and effective combat strategies for victory.
This guide details the tactics for using the main fighter classes in Homeworld 2: Scouts, Interceptors, and Bombers.
Scouts
Scouts are highly useful due to their superior sensors, unmatched speed, and effective EMP blast. Their sensor ping is invaluable for locating missed enemies and chasing enemy scouts. However, they have low HP and attack power, and come in squadrons of 3. Their primary role is reconnaissance and early warning, not sustained combat. They can be used for hit-and-run raids on undefended resource operations, but will flee from opposition. It's recommended to use only one or two squadrons unless the EMP or rapid pursuit of probes is needed. Scouts can lure frigates into minefields or use their sensor ping to find elusive resource operations. A rush tactic, similar to Starcraft, can be used for quick scouting at a cost of 350 RU. For EMP attacks, group at least 3 scout squadrons to disable frigates, allowing marines or infantry to capture them. The sensor ping, costing 1000 RU, is extremely useful for finding the last enemy remnants on the map, lasting about 10 seconds and highlighting enemies as red dots on the sensor manager.
Interceptors
Interceptors are designed specifically for destroying enemy fighter craft. They possess decent firepower and speed, and can be a significant force when grouped, though they are ineffective on their own. Squadrons consist of 5 units and are cost-effective. They are outmatched by corvettes and lack versatility. Their purpose is to intercept enemy strike craft, including scouts, other interceptors, bombers, resource collectors, and other light to medium craft. They also support pulsar corvettes against capital ships like frigates and resource controllers. Interceptors are equally successful in anti-fighter and anti-corvette roles. A general recommendation for interceptor wing size is 4-6 squadrons for most engagements.
Bombers
Bombers are very useful in Homeworld 2, featuring good speed, maneuverability, and powerful attacks. When grouped, they are deadly and highly effective against frigates.
