Follow our detailed walkthrough for 'A Path To Jötunheim' in God of War (2018). Learn how to collect keys, defeat enemies, and progress through this critical quest.
Walkthrough
- 1Exit the hidden library, take the elevator down, and realm travel back to Midgard.
- 2Visit the dwarven brothers to have them craft the key for Týr's door.
- 3Access the shop for new crafting recipes, including powerful Niflheim armor (recommended to save for post-game).
- 4Upgrade the Blades of Chaos to Level IV with the Chaos Flame from Helheim. Note that final upgrades for both Leviathan Axe and Blades of Chaos require post-game content.
- 5Purchase new skills for the Blades of Chaos from the Skills screen.
- 6Accept the 'Hail to the King' favor from the dwarves.
- 7Travel to the Svartalfheim Realm Tower via Mystic Gateway and light the brazier.
- 8Defeat the Traveller.
- 9Ride the elevator down to the boat, head north, then west through the tunnel to King's Hollow. Dock the boat.
- 10Activate the Mystic Gateway and use the entry stone on the pedestal.
- 11Follow the path, burn brambles, and take the chain down.
- 12Read the Lore Marker and find Sindri at his shop. Purchase items if needed.
- 13Continue forward to find the final dragon to free.
- 14Defeat the two Hel-Walkers that spawn, then throw the axe at the Scorn Pole.
- 15Open the coffin, defeat the Hel-Walkers that ambush you, and find the first Raven on the wall behind the coffin.
- 16Head back and take the other path down, defeating Hel-Walkers. Look left to find the next Mystic Gateway.
- 17Continue down the path, defeat another Hel-Walker group, and throw the axe at the Scorn Pole to reach the Stronghold doors.
- 18The door requires three keystones. Pick up the first keystone in front of the door and place it in the pedestal.
- 19Head south to find the next keystone. Follow the path past the Scorn Pole, brambles, and two Wulvers to reach ruins with a Soul Devourer.
- 20Defeat the Soul Devourer by waiting for its core to expose and hitting it with the axe, then throwing its fallen clusters back at it. Dodge its beam attack.
- 21Loot the spoils, burn the brambles, and find a coffin.
- 22Go up the stairs (ignoring the wind trap for now) and shimmy across the wall.
- 23Defeat the Wolves at the end. Look southeast to spot a Light Crystal hanging. Toss the axe at the runic disc to drop it into the stream.
- 24Drop down, pick up the Light Crystal, and carry it along the path through the gate.
- 25Shoot the Light Crystal to create a bridge across the gap above.
- 26Defeat the Wolves, then carry the Light Crystal down the north path. Place it in the pedestal at the end after defeating the Wulver and Wolves.
- 27Shoot the Light Crystal to erect a bridge overhead.
- 28Follow the path back south through the ruins to find the wind trap you ignored earlier.
- 29Grab the Winds of Hel and run up the stairs, across the newly erected bridge, and deposit it in the next wind trap.
- 30Repeat this process one more time, depositing the energy in the door at the end to find two sacks of Hacksilver.
- 31Climb the ledge and look left to find the second Konùnsgard Stronghold Entry Stone.
- 32Kick the shortcut chain down and head back to the door to insert the stone. This will open portals from which Hel-Walkers and Hel-Viken will emerge. Defeat them using Runics and Summons.
- 33Head north. When you reach the waterfall on your west, toss the axe at the wooden boards to lower the water level.
- 34Access the area behind the lowered water, defeat the Hel-Walkers, and open the coffin.
- 35Continue along the path until a Fierce Ogre blocks your way.
Tips
- The Niflheim armor is among the best in the game but requires significant time and resources in Niflheim. It can trivialize the final boss.
- Final upgrades for the Leviathan Axe and Blades of Chaos are only available after completing the main story and exploring optional realms.
- The 'Hail to the King' favor is recommended to be completed now due to its useful reward.
- When fighting the Soul Devourer, wait for its core to become exposed to deal significant damage.
- Use your Runics and Summons to deal with the waves of Hel-Walkers and the Hel-Viken that spawn after placing the second keystone.
- The 'Hail to the King' favor rewards are very useful (specific rewards not detailed in source).
- Two sacks of Hacksilver are found after depositing the Winds of Hel into the final door mechanism.
