Realm Unlocks

Learn how to unlock the optional realms of Muspelheim and Niflheim in God of War (2018). Follow this guide to find all four Muspelheim and Niflheim Language Cipher pieces.

To unlock the optional realms of Muspelheim and Niflheim, you must find four pieces of a language cipher for each realm. These cipher pieces are found in Legendary Chests scattered throughout the world.

The Realm of Fire (Muspelheim)

Objectives: Complete the Muspelheim Language Cipher [4]
Rewards: Unlock Muspelheim

To gain access to Muspelheim, you need to collect four cipher pieces. These are found in Legendary Chests.

Cipher #1

Head to the Forgotten Caverns when the water in the Lake of Nine drops for the first time. Climb the chain to the right. At the top is a Legendary Chest containing the first Cipher piece.

Cipher #2

Travel to the Cliffs of Raven, south from the east dock at Týr’s Temple. Dock the beach and destroy the wooden board at the far end to boost Atreus. Once he drops the chain, climb it and look left to find the Legendary Chest with this Cipher piece.

Cipher #3

During your journey to the mountain, after passing the first couple of Scorn Poles in the Vanaheim Tower, you’ll come to a ledge. Drop down and defeat the Cursed Tatzelwurm that attacks after you hit the next Scorn Pole. Look to the left of the Scorn Pole to find a Legendary Chest containing this Cipher piece.

Cipher #4

While traveling back through the Witch’s Cave after receiving Mimir’s head, you’ll find a sap obstacle to your right. Destroy it and head through the room to your right. The Legendary Chest containing the final Cipher piece is there.

Use the Realm Table to Travel to Muspelheim

Once you have the language disc, go to the Realm Travel room and select Muspelheim. You will complete the Favor upon entering the realm.

The Realm of Fog (Niflheim)

Objectives: Complete the Niflheim Language Cipher [4]
Rewards: Unlock Niflheim

Niflheim is another optional realm with difficult tasks. To access it, you need to find four cipher pieces in Legendary Chests.

Cipher #1

After the water level drops for the second time at the Lake of Nine, head toward the oarsman statues (toward the Mason Channel) and dock at the beach to the right. Climb the ledge and look over the side to see Shatter Crystals. Shoot these with Shock Arrows to remove the debris. Follow this path to the end to find the Legendary Chest containing the first Cipher Piece.

Cipher #2

Return to the Lookout Tower once the water level drops for the second time at the Lake of Nine to access a new beach. Defeat the Nightmares, then hit the Spinner to your left twice to lower the spikes to the right of the beach. Head to this corner to find a Legendary Chest containing the second Cipher Piece.

Cipher #3

When the water level has dropped for the second time at the Lake of Nine, travel to the Ruins of the Ancient in the northwest. Defeat the Soul Devourer (it only attacks if you strike first), then dash in and open the Legendary Chest for the third Cipher Piece.

Cipher #4

As you reach the summit during the “Return to the Summit” Journey step, you’ll find a Realm Tear with a Legendary Chest behind it containing the final piece.

Use Realm Table to Travel to Niflheim

Once you have the language disc, go to the Realm Travel room and select Niflheim. You will complete the Favor upon entering the realm.
