Complete Doom (2016) Part 21 walkthrough for Lazarus Labs, including secrets, combat challenges, and BFG usage.
Walkthrough
- 1Use Siege Mode/Gauss Cannons on incoming hordes from the checkpoint (an auto-save point you restart from on death).
- 2Deal with 3 Lost Souls that spawn: one straight ahead, one left, and one right. These respawn (be brought back to life at a checkpoint after death) if you die.
- 3Destroy the Gore Nest using your most powerful weapons.
- 4Be aware that destroying the Gore Nest is not a checkpoint; you must kill the 2 Hell Barons that follow.
- 5A robotic voice will announce a reduced demonic threat level, but this is not a checkpoint.
- 6Use one BFG blast to eliminate both Hell Barons.
- 7Enter the elevator and select "Exit Facility" to conclude the level.
Notes on Combat Challenges:
- Variety is the Spice of Death II: Glory kills on Hell Razers count towards this challenge.
- Thread the Needle: Use the BFG. Two fights shortly after acquiring it should help achieve this.
- Time Well Spent: This challenge is easy but can be missed. Ensure you complete it before leaving Olivia's back lab.
Mission 9: Intro
- Grab the Gas, the CODEX ENTRY "Environments / Lazarus Labs", and recharge your health as you cannot return here.
- In the next room, acquire the rarely used Siphon Grenade.
- Jump down the chute.
- Engage The Possesseds, Possessed Soldiers, Hell Razers (perform different glory kills for a combat challenge), and a Pinky.
- Follow the waypoint (a marker on your map you've manually placed as a destination) to remove a corpse-chunk blocking an elevator; 3 Imps will emerge.
- Kill the Imps and use the Munitions Crate.
- Instead of jumping into the shaft, look behind the crates near the Munitions Crate for a duct (SECRET 9.1).
- Follow the duct to a Mega Health, which will drop you into the next fight.
Mission 9: Fight: First Warehouse
- Engage in a large fight with many Hell Knights and Revenants.
- After defeating them, enter the green-lit doorway.
Mission 9: More Secrets
- Go up stairs in a red-lit area. Turn around to find a duct with shotgun ammo.
- Jump into the duct and follow it to a grate you can open, leading to SECRET 9.5.
- Inside SECRET 9.5, find ELITE GUARD 9.1 and CODEX ENTRY "Database / Elite Guard 2".
- Continue toward the in-game waypoint, passing through a transparent walkway while Dr Hayden explains events.
- At the end of the walkway, find FIELD DRONE 9.1.
- Proceed down a curving hallway with 4 The Possesseds and CODEX ENTRY "Monsters / Cyberdaemon 2".
- Continue to encounter Possessed Soldiers and a Hell Knight.
- Go up a short flight of stairs and look for a white hatch in the floor. Interact with it to drop down for SECRET 9.2.
- Climb up to find RUNE CHALLENGE 9.1 "Rich Get Richer".
- When finished, interact with the screen near the door to exit back to the hatch area.
- From the hatch, enter the next room with two large steamy windows.
- Facing the windows, look right for a torn duct you can climb into.
- Drop down into an area containing the AUTO-MAP.
- Exit through a duct behind a columnar structure, leading to a panel of lights.
- Jump up and look for a grating to open, exiting back to an early hall.
Mission 9: Fight: Miscellaneous Hallway Guards
- The first room contains Possessed Securities, The Possesseds, and Possessed Engineers.
- The second room has a CHECKPOINT (used for the next fight), 4 Possessed Soldiers, and a Hell-Razer.
- The next room has ammo and a Health Station before you drop down a hatch into the next fight.
POINT OF NO RETURN: After finishing the next fight, you cannot return to this tunnel area. Ensure you interact with Rich Get Richer, even if you do not complete it.
Mission 9: Fight: Mancubus Operating Room
- Engage many Possessed Securities, The Possessed, Hell Razers, Possessed Soldiers, and 3 Mancubi.
- Toward the end of the fight, 2 Hell Knights will spawn.
- Consider using the Plasma Rifle Heat Wave with Quad Damage for this fight.
- After the fight, examine the empty mancubus bed at the back of the room, between the two exit doors.
- Behind the bed, actuate a screen to find ELITE GUARD 9.2 in SECRET 9.4.
Mission 9: Fight: Stone Tablet Exhibit Hall
- Find a Munitions Crate in the entrance hallway.
- Loot the area, then check the door for an ambush by a Possessed Soldier near the entrance.
- Open the door to begin the fight.
- The fight starts with 3 Possessed Soldiers (one is close and requires urgent attention) and a large number of The Possesseds. Consider using grenades. This is a good opportunity for the Thread the Needle combat challenge.
- Shortly after, 2 Pinkies spawn at the back of the room.
- Killing the Pinkies triggers the spawning of 4 more Pinkies and many Imps. Use the BFG, Chainsaw, and evasive maneuvers.
- Cheap Strategy: After killing the initial Possessed Soldiers, retreat into the tunnels behind the stone artifacts. Most monsters, especially Pinkies, cannot follow, but Imps can still attack with fireballs. You may need to use the Chainsaw for ammo; the second Pinkie is a good target.
- After the fight, return to the entrance door of the room.
Tips
- The BFG can only store 3 charges.
- Use Siege Mode/Gauss Cannons to deal with initial hordes.
- The Hell Barons can be defeated with a single BFG blast.
- Glory kills on Hell Razers count for the "Variety is the Spice of Death II" challenge.
- The "Thread the Needle" challenge is best attempted with the BFG.
- Ensure "Time Well Spent" is completed before leaving Olivia's back lab.
- The Siphon Grenade is rarely used but available early in Mission 9.
- Secret areas are marked with numbers like SECRET 9.1, SECRET 9.2, and SECRET 9.5.
- Look for CODEX ENTRY items to learn more about the game's lore and enemies.
- FIELD DRONEs provide upgrades, though you may have already acquired them.
- RUNE CHALLENGEs offer opportunities to earn runes that enhance gameplay.
- The area after the Mancubus fight contains SECRET 9.4 with an Elite Guard.
- In the Stone Tablet Exhibit Hall, tunnels behind stone artifacts offer a defensive position.
