Health System: You start with one melon, which functions as your health meter. Each melon has four slices. Enemies can deplete your health, with some taking two slices and certain hazards removing a whole melon. Defeated enemies drop melon slices to restore health. Candy can provide an extra melon in Angry Aztec and another in Crystal Caves. Losing all melons causes your Kong to faint and respawn (be brought back to life at a checkpoint after death) at the start of the level, though you have infinite lives.

Supply Crates: These crates look like bouncing cannonballs and replenish ammo for your Kong's shooters. Each crate provides five pieces of ammunition. Initial weapon capacity is 50 pieces, upgradable to a maximum of 200. To equip a weapon, hold Z and press left C. Press B to shoot, and up-C for first-person aiming, which allows for sniping with Funky's final upgrade. Press left C again to unequip. Shooters are used to hit target switches, which indicate the required projectile type. Red Supply Crates, available after learning homing ammo from Funky in Fungi Forest, grant homing projectiles when a new homing meter appears.

Orange Grenades: These bounce and increase your orange total. To use one, hold Z and press right C to throw an orange that bounces and seeks targets, often destroying Kremlings and useful for Kasplats. Initial capacity is low but increases to a maximum of 30 oranges by photographing Banana Fairies.

Crystal Coconuts: These spinning crystals increase your coconut total. They can only be used after learning a Kong Barrel move. Activating a special move depletes the Crystal Coconut meter. The move automatically deactivates if you run out of coconuts. Conserve coconuts by completing tasks quickly. Initial capacity is low but increases to a maximum of 40 coconuts by photographing Banana Fairies.

Banana Fairy Film: This film is used with the Banana Fairy Camera, obtained from the Banana Fairy Queen on DK Isle after shrinking Tiny to fit the entrance. Photographing the two fairies in each world (plus four on DK Isle, totaling 20) captures them, increasing your maximum item totals. To equip the camera, hold Z and press down C. A crosshair appears; overlap it with a fairy and press Z, A, or B to take the picture.
