This guide explains how to effectively place claymores in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare to ensure maximum lethality. Unlike other mines, claymores require specific orientations to be 100% effective. The visible laser indicates the blast zone, which is directly in front of the mine when deployed.

Key Placement Principles:

• Lethal Orientation: For a claymore to be 100% lethal, the target must be moving directly towards or away from it.
• Blast Zone: The laser sight indicates the blast zone, which is directly in front of the mine.
• Distinction from WaW: Claymores differ from Bouncing Betties in trigger and blast radius; do not use them interchangeably.

Optimal Placement Strategies:

1. Top of Stairs: Place 3-4 feet back from the top, at a 90-degree angle to the stairway and off to the side of the landing. This catches players who assume the area is clear.
2. Doorways (Option 1 - Most Effective): On one side of the door, about 5 feet back and 5 feet to the side, angled at 45 degrees to the doorway. This is effective against rushers on maps like Bloc and Overgrown.
3. Doorways (Option 2 - Cautious Enemies): Stand near the wall by the door, step to the side in the direction of anticipated enemy travel, and place the mine at a 90-degree angle to the door.
4. Behind Cover (Flanking Routes): Place behind objects like fuel barrels on maps such as Downpour, angled back towards your spawn. This creates an ambush point for players pushing through the area.
5. Tight Corners/Hallways: On maps like Wetworks, place against shipping containers or in hallways leading to bridges. A 45-degree angle to the container or using the doorway placement (Option 3) can catch players turning corners or cover your back while sniping.

Placement Rationale:

• The 2-3 foot setback is based on the visible laser range.
• 45-degree angles away from obstructions prevent burying the mine's explosive force.

Pro Performance Tip: "Clay More" Challenge

For the "Clay more" challenge, use a UAV Jammer in Domination mode. When enemies are capturing a flag (often standing still), place a claymore behind them. This works well on maps like Overgrown, Backlot (near flag B), and Strike. If you place it close enough and it kills multiple players, you'll get credit. This tactic is also effective against snipers or campers, and shooting your own claymore after an enemy triggers it can grant credit for "Counter Claymore."
