Activate Mayhem Mode in borderlands 3 to boost XP, cash, Eridium, and luck. Learn about the guaranteed and random modifiers that increase difficulty and rewards.

To activate Mayhem Mode in borderlands 3, you must interact with an artifact located in Sanctuary, opposite Tannis’ lab. Placing this artifact into the right slot activates Mayhem I, the left slot activates Mayhem II, and the central slot activates Mayhem III. Once active, a red skull icon will appear under your XP Bar on the HUD (heads-up display — the on-screen icons showing health, ammo and the minimap (the small circular map in the bottom-left corner of your screen)) to indicate that Mayhem Mode is currently enabled.

Each level of Mayhem Mode guarantees an increase in the following variables:

  • XP: Mayhem I (+10%), Mayhem II (+30%), Mayhem III (+50%)
  • Cash/Eridium: Mayhem I (+30%), Mayhem II (+60%), Mayhem III (+100%)
  • Luck (Rare Drop Rate): Mayhem I (+100%), Mayhem II (+300%), Mayhem III (+500%)
  • Enemy Health: Mayhem I (+15%), Mayhem II (+75%), Mayhem III (+150%)
  • Enemy Shield: Mayhem I (+25%), Mayhem II (+100%), Mayhem III (+200%)
  • Enemy Armor: Mayhem I (+25%), Mayhem II (+100%), Mayhem III (+200%)

These increases mean greater rewards at the cost of facing more difficult enemies. Additionally, new enemy types may spawn, and the chance for Anointed grade Equipment to drop increases, further enhancing your character's skills.

Beyond these guaranteed changes, Mayhem Mode also introduces random modifiers that are generated each time you spawn into a zone. These can significantly alter gameplay.
