Learn how to beat The Agonizer 9000 in Borderlands 3! This guide covers its attacks, weak points, and strategies to help you conquer this tough boss.
Alright, so you've made it to the Guts of Carnivora and it's time to face The Agonizer 9000. This boss fight happens in a circular arena, and the Agonizer itself stays pretty much in the center. Your main job here is to keep moving and watch its attacks. The best places to hit it are the red fuel lines all over its body, and especially its eye sockets for critical damage.
Stats / Weaknesses:
- Weak Spots: Red fuel lines all over its body, and its eye sockets.
- Key Drop: Epic RPG Agonizer 1500 (from the table).
Phases:
- Phase 1: Initial Assault
The Agonizer starts by firing Saw Blades from its chest. You can dodge these by running to the sides. As the fight progresses, it'll throw more blades at once, so stay sharp.
- Phase 2: Environmental Hazards & Adds
Keep an eye on the floor! Parts of the arena will glow red, signaling an incoming fire attack. Get off those spots ASAP. The Agonizer also has a Spiked Crusher attack where it slams its arm down – usually happens while it's throwing Saw Blades, so constant movement is key. Later in the fight, it'll summon reinforcements (adds) and put up barriers, making dodging even trickier.
- Phase 3: Mega Blade & Core Reveal
Once you've taken down about half of its first health bar, a new, more dangerous attack appears: the Mega Blade. This long blade sweeps around the arena. You'll need to either jump or crouch to avoid it, depending on its height. At the same time, the floor flames will continue, and their patterns will change, sometimes moving from front to back, and the Mega Blade might spin counter-clockwise.
- Phase 4: Eridium Core
After you deplete the first health gauge, the rest of the fight is much simpler. The Agonizer's Eridium Core will become visible. This is your cue to unload everything you've got into it to finish the battle.
Strategy:
- The Agonizer stays in the center, so you'll be circling it.
- Focus on dodging its attacks first and foremost.
- The large fuel tank on its back is a pretty easy target to hit consistently.
- Try to use hip fire for most of the fight. Aiming down sights can slow you down when you need to quickly evade.
- When the Mega Blade attack starts, pay close attention to its height and the floor for fire.
- Once the Eridium Core is exposed, go all out. This is where you'll deal massive damage and end the fight.
- Stick to hip fire to maintain situational awareness.
- The fuel tank on its back is a large, consistent weak point.
- Don't get caught on the floor when it turns red!
- The Mega Blade attack requires quick reflexes – jump or crouch as needed.
- Once the Eridium Core is visible, it's time to unleash your most powerful weapons.
