Learn about Borderlands 3's Guardian Rank system. Discover how to earn Guardian XP, spend tokens in the Enforcer, Survivor, and Hunter trees, and unlock powerful perks.

Guardian Rank is a new system in Borderlands 3 that provides passive buffs and cosmetic unlocks. You earn Guardian XP by performing any action that would normally grant regular experience points, with Mayhem Mode further increasing this gain. Ranking up grants a Guardian Token, which can be spent in one of three trees: Enforcer, Survivor, and Hunter. Each tree offers passive stats that offer diminishing returns, capping around 15% after hundreds of points. However, there is no limit to the number of Guardian Rank Tokens you can earn. A key benefit is that Guardian Rank is account-bound, meaning its effects apply to all characters.

Spending tokens also unlocks Perks and cosmetic items like skins. Due to diminishing returns on stats, it's generally recommended to unlock all Perks within a tree (75 tokens per tree) before heavily investing in individual stats.

Enforcer Tree

The Enforcer Tree focuses on increasing your damage output. Key stats include Critical Damage, Gun Damage, and Gun Fire Rate. Vehicle Damage is considered less useful due to limited in-game application. Recommended Perks include Inner Fury (adds Gun Damage while in Fight For Your Life), C-C-Combo (increases Gun Damage with successive shots), and Hollow Point (causes explosions on critical hit kills).

Survivor Tree

The Survivor Tree enhances survivability. Important stats include Max Health, Shield Capacity, and FFYL Duration. Shield Recharge Delay and Rate are also beneficial, while FFYL Movement Speed is considered the least useful. The most recommended Perk is Resilient (15 Tokens), which recovers you with full health and shields. Other useful Perks include Shield Reboot (triggers shield regeneration on kill) and Emergency Response (improves shield recharge based on missing health). Be mindful that some Perks can limit build diversity.
