Iron Hand Guild

Track down Merchant Tamao for the Iron Hand Guild in Assassin's Creed Shadows. Learn his location, how to get his attention, and the rewards you'll earn.

Alright, so you've picked up the 'Death of Merchants' quest and the game's updated the objective to 'The Iron Hand Guild.' This means you've got five targets, and the first one we're going after is Merchant Tamao. He's the easiest one on the list, so let's get him sorted.

Where to Find Merchant Tamao:

Tamao is hanging out in Yamashiro, specifically running a brewery in Kyoto. To be more precise, he's west of the Honpoji Temple (not to be confused with Honnoji Temple, they're different!). If you've got the Nijo Tenshu Viewpoint unlocked in Kyoto, fast travel there. Head towards the center of Kyoto, then make your way as far east as you can within the city limits. As you get closer to the eastern edge, keep an eye out for a small blue dot using your Observe ability. That's your general area.

Getting His Attention:

Once you're in the vicinity, you'll probably overhear some folks talking about Tamao. They'll mention he really doesn't like being bothered, especially when he's in a certain mood. The trick to getting him to show himself? Mess with his merchandise. You'll see these large pots marked with blue dots just outside his brewery. Start smashing them up! You can attack them directly, or if you're playing as Yasuke, just running into them is pretty satisfying. Tamao will eventually start yelling at you to stop.

The Confrontation:

Keep smashing those pots until he comes out of the building opposite them. Be ready for a fight, but don't worry too much. If you're quick, you can actually hide as soon as he comes out and perform an assassination, skipping the fight entirely. If you do fight him, especially as Yasuke, a charged attack should take him down in one hit. If you're playing as Naoe, you can try waiting around the corner of the building, then sneak up behind him when he turns his back for an assassination.

Taking down Merchant Tamao nets you some good stuff: 2000 XP, 2 Mastery Points, the Zashiki Room for your hideout, and 280 Mon. Plus, don't forget to check the corpse near his house – it has a letter that kicks off 'The Twisted Tree' questline. The main reward for the whole Iron Hand Guild quest is a hefty 5000 XP, a Legendary Trinket for Naoe, and a piece of Gold. Keep in mind, there are four more targets, including the leader, but they're at a much higher level, so you might want to save them for later.
