Follow this Assassin's Creed Shadows walkthrough to successfully infiltrate Honnoji Temple, assassinate Oda Nobunaga, and complete the Temple of the Horseman quest.

Alright, so you've finished up that last bit for Ise Sadaoki, and now it's time to finally take down Oda Nobunaga. To get this quest rolling, you'll need to find Mitsuhide. He's hanging out just southwest of Toji Temple, across a bridge. You'll know you're in the right spot because it's the start of the Shoryuji sub-region.

Chat with Mitsuhide, and he'll lay out the plan: you're going in ahead of his main force to deal with Nobunaga directly. Once you've handled that, he and his guys will hit the gates, creating enough chaos for you to slip away. When you're ready, just pick 'Let's go,' and you'll be locked into a series of main quests.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
You'll start off on a rooftop at Honnoji Temple, where Oda Nobunaga is holed up. Your main objective is to get to him and take him out, ideally without making a huge scene. Luckily, it's nighttime, which should help with your stealthy approach.
  2. 2
First things first, activate Eagle Eye to mark any enemies nearby. You'll spot a couple of guards patrolling the courtyard. Wait for one to move towards your building. If you've got Double Assassinate, now's the perfect time to use it. Otherwise, just wait for one to turn away and take them out one by one. There's another guard near the building to the north that you'll need to handle, but it's much easier once the others are dealt with.
  3. 3
Head into that northern building and take out the guard inside through the Shoji Door. Grab any loot from the chest there. Now, climb onto the roof of this building and use Eagle Eye again to spot the next group of enemies to the north.
  4. 4
Drop down and make your way to the wall. Wait for a clear moment and then assassinate the soldier standing near the well. Make sure to stash his body in the well to avoid detection.
  5. 5
You'll see a hay bale just ahead. Sneak into it and you can take out both of the guards there. Then, just wait for one more patrolling soldier to come back around to this area and assassinate him.
  6. 6
Climb over the next wall to the north. You'll find a pretty open courtyard here that you can cross to reach the next wall. The big building at the back is where Oda Nobunaga is, but going through the front is a no-go. Instead, approach from the right side. Get down and look for a crawlspace under the stairs. At the end of this space, you'll find a hatch you can open that leads you right to Oda Nobunaga.

Oda Nobunaga Boss Battle

The fight with Nobunaga kicks off right after the cutscene. You don't need to completely drain his health to win, but you'll need to get him pretty close. He usually starts by charging at you with a Flurry Attack. Be ready to deflect all those hits, as this will open him up for a counter-attack. Stick to Light Attacks here to get in as many hits as possible.

Once you take out about a quarter of his health, he'll grab you and throw you down as the temple starts to catch fire. If you have enough Adrenaline at this point, using a Tidal Wave to start this phase can be super helpful. It'll give you an opening for a combo and hopefully bring Nobunaga below half health. Just be prepared for him to retaliate with an unstoppable kick.

He'll keep using these unstoppable attacks for the rest of the fight, especially with his basic Katana combos. So, you'll want to focus on dodging rather than blocking to create your openings. You'll also need to be ready to dodge away from burning debris, as getting hit by it will inflict the Burning status effect.

After you finally defeat Oda Nobunaga, a series of cutscenes will play, marking the end of the Temple of the Horseman quest. The next quest, Lightning and Thunder, will begin immediately.
