Complete "Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II" The Last Stand mission walkthrough. Learn how to defend beacons, destroy Tyranid nests, and defeat the Hive Tyrant Alpha.
Walkthrough
- 1Equip your entire team with their best gear and accessories. Consider bringing turrets but save them for the end.
- 2As you advance, you will be constantly assaulted by melee enemies. Stay on the move to avoid being slowly whittled down, especially on higher difficulties. The Dreadnought can help mitigate this.
- 3Proceed to the first beacon but do not capture it immediately. Position your squad along the available cover (press the cover button to crouch behind walls or objects) and prepare for an enemy assault.
- 4Have your Force Commander (FC) poison the first vein and prepare for another assault. The Tyranids will attack to prevent the vein from reaching the hive. Establish a strong defensive line. Turrets are generally not needed here unless on higher difficulties; if used, place them close to you for defense.
- 5Once the poisoning is complete, the rest of your squad will arrive. They can be selected using number keys (5 & 6).
- 6To simplify the mission, locate and destroy the nearby Tyranid nest to the north to halt reinforcements from that direction.
- 7Advance to the next beacon. Before capturing it, head north of the beacon and destroy the Brood Nest there. Destroy the second Brood Nest located to the southeast as well.
- 8With both Brood Nests destroyed, capture the beacon and then poison the vein. Expect a significant Tyranid assault from the north and east. Deploy your turrets to cover both approaches and keep your Dreadnought as a reserve to defend the vein. His abilities are crucial for clearing enemies that reach the vein.
- 9Prepare for a final, large-scale engagement. This phase is easier on lower difficulties but becomes challenging on higher ones. Use the Dreadnought's ranged attack, explosives, and Terminator Cyclone missiles to thin out enemies before they get close. Use rally abilities periodically to keep your units alive if they engage in close combat.
- 10The Blood Raven fleet arrives, signaling the next objective: escape the planet. Make your way east towards the new objective, destroying any Brood Hives encountered to reduce enemy resistance. Ascend the stairs and capture the beacon. Most remaining enemies will approach from the north.
- 11After capturing the beacon, you will receive additional support from a powerful new ally. Follow your destination marker to confront the Hive Tyrant Alpha. You can ignore non-essential enemies as other Ravens will engage them.
- 12Prepare for the fight against the Hive Tyrant Alpha. This encounter is made easier by the new ally's invincibility ability, healing packs, rally, and any rosarius items. The Hive Tyrant Alpha has strong attacks and deals significant damage. Keep the FC and the new ally engaged with the Hive Tyrant while other units provide support. Deploy turrets to attack it. As long as the unit with healing packs remains alive, you should succeed even on harder difficulties.
Tips
