Fishing in The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero is a straightforward process. Locate a fishing spot (marked by ripples in the water), interact with it, and select your fishing rod and bait. After Lloyd casts his line, three text bubbles will appear above his head. Once these disappear, watch for an exclamation point bubble and an audio cue to know when something bites. Press the button quickly to catch it; otherwise, you'll lose your bait. Mashing the button won't result in any bites.
You'll receive starter fishing gear from Kopan, a fisherman on the bridge in the middle of Armorica Village. This includes the Novice Rod, 10x Dumplings, 10x Earthworms, and the Fishing Notebook.
Chapter 1 - Fishing with the Novice Rod
In Chapter 1, Day 1, during the main quest Monster Damage Investigation, you'll obtain your first fishing rod. Travel through East Crossbell Highway and Old Armorica Road to reach Armorica Village and speak with the mayor. Find Kopan fishing off a bridge; he will induct you into the fishing guild and provide starter gear. You'll then be directed to a fishing spot east of the village.
The Armorica Village fishing spot allows you to catch four fish: Armorican Carp, Tiger Rockfish, Rockeater, and Raineater. All can be caught with Earthworms. It's recommended to catch these before leaving Armorica Village, as returning might be delayed.
