About the Game
Star Ocean: The Divine Force is an action role-playing game developed by tri-Ace and published by Square Enix. It was released worldwide for multiple platforms, October 27, 2022. It is the sixth main title in the Star Ocean franchise, presenting events that take place 46 years after those of the fifth installment, Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness.
Merchant vessel captain, Raymond Lawrence, forced to abandon ship and head for the planet Aster IV, meets Crown Princess Laeticia. She agrees to help Raymond locate other members of his ship's crew in exchange for his aid in her search for a Wise Man. Choose to play the game as either Raymond or Laeticia. Story events unfold differently depending on your choice of protagonist. Sometimes they split up and you only see what your Main Character experiences. Their journey together will reveal threats on a galactic scale that neither one expected.
Aster IV offers diverse regions to explore. Raymond's recovered cargo, an intelligent drone known as D.U.M.A., lets you fly for short distances to investigate areas you otherwise could not reach. Combat is live and fast-paced. Characters learn battle skills that can be linked to form attack combos. A skill can be strengthened by spending Skill Points to raise the skill's level. D.U.M.A. provides battle assistance, too, with enhanced movement, attacks and defense.
In addition to the main story, the game offers optional locations to explore as well as formal quests, side quests and an addicting board game. Item Creation, a Star Ocean staple, lets you make things to help along your journey and offers a great way to customize your characters. Private Actions, another recurring feature in Star Ocean games, add depth to the story and can change the relationships between characters. With two Main Characters, you can enjoy twice as many Private Actions. If their relationship is strong enough, your protagonist may have an individual ending scene with every other character in the party.
With this latest look into the Star Ocean, tri-Ace shows it still can deliver a quality space/fantasy adventure.

Characters
Meet the characters of Star Ocean: The Divine Force, including Raymond Lawrence, Laeticia Aucerius, and Albaird Bergholm.
Raymond Lawrence
Raymond is a young man from Verguld, a planet not part of the Pangalactic Federation. He captains the transport ship Ydas for his family's company, Lawrence Logistics. Known for his phrase, "I'll do it somehow," he often takes on reckless challenges to support his comrades, much to his crew's distress. He is easy-going, friendly, and possesses a keen business sense. As he is not part of the Federation, Raymond is not bound by the Underdeveloped Planets Preservation Pact and deals openly and sincerely with others, regardless of their technological advancement. His personality is welcomed by Laeticia, but Albaird remains wary.
Laeticia Aucerius
Laeticia is the crown princess of the Kingdom of Aucerius, located on the underdeveloped planet Aster IV. Despite her prim and proper royal demeanor, she enjoys wearing armor and wielding twin swords. Her radiant and resolute personality is admired by her kingdom's people. To address ongoing military tensions with a neighboring country, Laeticia embarks on a secret journey to find Midas. She encounters Raymond, and they decide to travel together.
Albaird Bergholm
Albaird is Laeticia's childhood friend and retainer, now serving as a knight of Aucerius to protect her. He is skilled in both physical combat and chakram manipulation, and his strong loyalty keeps him constantly vigilant of Laeticia's surroundings. Albaird's left arm is covered from his hand to his fingertips, and he sometimes gestures as if to protect it, indicating it causes him pain. He stoically endures this pain to avoid worrying Laeticia and to prevent it from interfering with his duties. If it does impede his work, he apologizes for being a burden. Initially wary of Raymond, he reluctantly allows him to accompany Laeticia due to her wishes.
Nina Deforges
Nina is a sorcerer from the Kingdom of Aucerius and one of the few practitioners of healing magic known as iatrimancy. Her lifelong ambition is to cure the disease that caused her father's death. She continues her research while working as an assistant to a local therapist. Nina has a bright and innocent personality, coupled with a strong natural curiosity that drives her research. While she sometimes experiences setbacks due to being overwhelmed, she is determined and capable, willing to endure any hardship for the patient before her.
Midas Felgreed
Midas is a leading physicist and engineer in the Aucerian Kingdom. He once held a high position but was exiled due to a past incident. His current whereabouts are unknown, and it is uncertain if he is still alive. Midas is as stubborn as he is curious. His pursuit of knowledge often leads him to disregard laws and ethics, yet he remains a man of strong principles who always sees his endeavors through to completion.
Elena E-014297
Elena is an android from the planet Verguld. She is a crew member of the transport ship Ydas and serves as Raymond's adjutant, managing nearly all ship operations. Her extensive knowledge and calm demeanor have earned her the trust of Raymond and the crew. She is honest in all her dealings and, while often surprised by Raymond's sometimes unreasonable actions, she values his leadership qualities.
Malkya Trathen
Malkya is the leader of the Trathen tribe, residing on the Nihlbeth continent, south of the Kingdom of Aucerius, a region known for its diverse races. Nihlbeth is also considered the birthplace of science, with science deeply integrated into its people's culture. The Trathen tribe once had diplomatic relations with the Kingdom for scientific research, but this relationship has since cooled. Malkya possesses high intelligence, characteristic of the Trathen, and can alter her appearance at will. She has a long history with Midas and has known Laeticia and Albaird since their youth.
Marielle L. Kenny
Marielle holds the rank of Lieutenant and is second in command of the Pangalactic Federation's newest battleship, the Astoria. She was on the bridge with the captain when the Astoria shot down the Ydas. A member of the Federation's esteemed Kenny family, she graduated from the military academy at the top of her class. Despite her talent and early promotion to officer, the weight of her family name often causes her to be extremely strict with herself, maintaining a constant state of tension to meet the expectations placed upon her.
Theo Klemrath
Theo is a knight of the Kingdom of Aucerius and the eldest son of Duke Lombert, the king's younger brother. He is Laeticia's cousin and a friend of Albaird, treating them both like siblings and being particularly protective of Laeticia. Theo also commands a unit in the Aucerian Navy and is well-liked by his subordinates due to his easy-going nature. Within his family, he is politically caught between his hawkish father and the king.
J.J.
J.J. is a humanoid swordsman whose body has been extensively mechanized through integration with Scorpium. He encounters Raymond and Laeticia while fighting to protect his hometown. He is calm, fair, and cares for his friends. J.J. wields a thin blade and employs a unique sword technique in combat.
- Understanding each character's background and motivations can provide deeper insight into the narrative of Star Ocean: The Divine Force.
- Pay attention to character relationships, such as Albaird's loyalty to Laeticia and his initial distrust of Raymond.
- Note the unique abilities and origins of characters like Nina (iatrimancy) and Elena (android).
