Special Chao are unique Chao forms in Sonic Adventure, offering distinct appearances and sometimes special properties. This guide details how to obtain them.

Chaos Chao

Chaos Chao are the rarest and coolest Chao, characterized by their immortality and unique looks. To obtain one:

1. The Chao must be in its third life (have reincarnated at least twice).
2. Feed the Chao one of every animal in the game.
3. Decide the Chao's alignment:
• Angel Chaos Chao: Feed it lots of Hero Fruit.
• Devil Chao Chao: Feed it lots of Dark Fruit.
• Normal Chaos Chao: Feed it only Normal Fruit.
4. If these conditions are met, the Chao will evolve into a Chaos Chao.

Chaos Chao cannot mate.

Other Special Chao

These Chao are purely cosmetic and do not possess special powers.

• NiGHTS Chao: Use a normal egg. On its first evolution, make the Chao Neutral/Flying. On its second evolution, push it towards Flying again.
• Sonic Chao: Use a normal egg. Make the Chao Neutral/Running on its first evolution, and Running on its second. The Chao will turn green initially and then blue over time.
• Super Sonic Chao: Use a Gold Egg or Shiny Yellow Egg instead of a normal one, and follow the Sonic Chao evolution path.
• Metal Sonic Chao: Use a Shiny Sky Blue Egg. Make the Chao Neutral/Running on its first evolution, and Normal on its second.
• Shadow Chao: Follow the Sonic Chao evolution path but make the Chao Dark instead of Neutral.
• Super Shadow Chao: Use a Shiny Brown Egg instead of a normal one, and follow the Shadow Chao evolution path.
• Tails Chao: This requires a GameCube, Phantasy Star Online Episodes I and II, a Game Boy Advance, a GCN-GBA Link Cable, and Sonic Advance or Sonic Advance 2. In Phantasy Star Online Episode I, complete the mission "The Fake In Yellow." After returning to the planet, go near the waterfall and wait for a Chao to appear. Use the GBA Transport System to download the Chao to your Game Boy, then upload it to Sonic Adventure DX.
• Knuckles Chao: Use a Red Egg. Make the Chao Neutral/Power on its first evolution, and Flying on its second. The Reg Egg Shell can be used for a mask.
• Amy Chao: Use a Pink Egg. Make the Chao Neutral/Running on its first evolution, and Running on its second. Skunk parts can be used for hair.

Special Chao Eggs

Special eggs can be found in each adventure field and reappear after losing all lives.

• Gold Egg: Found in the antiques shop in Station Square, near Knuckles' entrance to Speed Highway. To obtain it, swap it with an egg-shaped rock found in a grassy area to the right of the shop.
• Silver Egg: Found in the Mystic Ruins. Go to the lake, look right, and push a rectangular object near the waterfall. The egg will emerge and float to shore.
• Onyx Egg: Found on the Egg Carrier in the cell area. Push the switch to open the gate and retrieve the egg. This egg can only be obtained with Amy and E-102Y.
