Alright, so you've booted up Sonic Adventure DX and you're probably wondering who all these characters are and why they're running around. This guide's gonna break down the whole cast for you, from the main heroes to some of the more... unique personalities.

The game kicks off in Station Square at night. Sonic, our favorite blue blur, finds the police and military trying to handle a strange blue creature called Chaos. Naturally, Sonic steps in to fight it, unaware that Chaos has some pretty big plans for the world. This sets the stage for Sonic's adventure to stop his arch-nemesis, Dr. Robotnik (or Eggman, as Sonic calls him), from bringing Chaos back to full power.

Let's meet the crew:

• Sonic the Hedgehog: The speedy hero you know and love. He's all about freedom and stopping Eggman. He's got a history of rescuing his animal friends and this time is no different. He's also got a new set of moves in 3D, like the homing attack and Light Dash, which are super useful.

• Miles “Tails” Prower: Sonic's young, mechanically gifted sidekick. With his two tails, he can fly and run super fast. He's been with Sonic since Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and is always tinkering with machines. He gets pulled into this adventure while testing a new power source. He's seven years younger than Sonic.

• Knuckles the Echidna: The guardian of the Master Emerald and Chaos Emeralds from Angel Island. He used to be tricked by Robotnik but is now friends with Sonic, though it's a bit of a rocky friendship. When the Master Emerald shatters, he leaves his island to find the pieces, which brings him into the main story.

• Amy Rose: A female hedgehog who's had a crush on Sonic since he saved her in Sonic CD. She's playable for the first time here and is determined to make Sonic marry her, much to his dismay. Her weapon of choice is the Piko Piko Hammer, and she gets tangled up with a certain annoying robot.

• Big the Cat: A simple-minded jungle dweller who loves fishing with his best friend, Froggy. When Froggy goes missing after finding a strange gem, Big sets off on a quest to find him... by fishing everywhere. Yep, his entire gameplay is fishing, though he does get a boss fight that involves it too.

• E-102 Gamma: A robot who starts out working for Eggman but eventually rebels. His levels are more like shooter stages. He's a new character introduced in this game.

  There are also other characters you'll meet, but these are the main playable ones you'll be controlling throughout the game. Each one has their own unique story and gameplay style, which can be a bit hit-or-miss depending on who you ask, but it definitely adds variety!
