Detailed walkthrough for Irenicus' Dungeon in Shadows of Doubt. Free companions, solve puzzles, and find valuable loot in this challenging early-game area.

After the opening scenes in which a mysterious figure tortures you with his "experiments", Imoen will arrive to free you from your cage.

New Companion: Imoen

Imoen is the second best Mage that you can recruit. Her Thief skills are sufficient to find (almost) all the traps and pick (almost) all the locks.

Thief skills: OL: 95, FT: 95, PP: 35, MS: 35, HS: 25

Head to the room to the northwest of the prison cell area. Ignore the Jailkeep Golem since it doesn't have anything to say. Remove the trap from the painting on the wall and unlock it to find a Dagger +1 and three Potions of Healing. If you imported a game and were carrying them in your inventory, you will also find the Golden Pantaloons.

You'll find some basic armour in the chest and some basic weapons on the table along with the Jail Cell Key.

Return to the previous room and use the key to release Jaheira from her cell for 3000XP.

New Companion: Jaheira

Jaheira is greatly improved from her Baldur's Gate incarnation - the high Dexterity makes her highly suited to the tank role, particularly with the addition of Iron Skins.

Next, speak to Minsc.

You are not able to open the door to his cage directly. Instead, tell him that you are going to leave him here.

In his fury, he will bend the bars of his cage and free himself, earning you 3000XP.

New Companion: Minsc

Minsc is another returning companion with improved attributes. The points in Dexterity and Constitution go some way to improving his survivability. Wielding a two-handed weapon compromises survivability for a front-line fighter so you may want to have him wield mace and a shield for tougher encounters.

The passage to the north of the Jail Golem's room leads to a door that you are currently unable to open so take the passage west from the Prison Cells.

The passage ends in a room with a lightning device in the centre that repeatedly summons Lightning Mephits. Have three of your party members kill the Mephit that is already there while the other disables the device using the panel on the right of the room.

Continue north to a room with crystal formations presided over by a genie named Aataqah.

He will offer assistance if you agree to answer a question. The scenario is basically a game of Prisoner's Dilemma. Select the option "I will press the button" (the noble path) and Aataqah will summon an Ogre Mage for you to fight. When it's dead, Aataqah will suggest that you seek out Rielev.

The passage to the north of this room contains three Goblins and ends in a locked door. Therefore, take the passage leading northwest. There are five Goblins here, including two Archers. Loot their remains to give Imoen a shortbow.

At the top of the passage, go through the door on the left to find yourself in a room full of glass tanks. There is a Dust Mephit and an Ice Mephit to kill. When the room is clear, search the trapped and locked crate at the bottom for a Quarterstaff +1.

Back out in the hallway, ignore the other door to the east for the time being and continue north and then east. Ignore the first door you come to and then kill a bunch of Goblins. Continue east and go through the door.

When you approach the tank, the creature trapped inside, Rielev, will speak to you and tell you that he has been forgotten here.

Offer him a release from non-death and he will welcome the possibility. Ask him how and he will tell you to take the crystals that power the device that sustains him. Before you do so, he suggests that you seek out the others like him to learn what you can from them. You will earn 4000XP and acquire the Energy Cells.

Afterwards, search the table for an Activation Stone.

There's also a barrel here with two Potions of Extra Healing.

Backtrack a short distance to the room with the tanks. If you want to, you can speak to the creatures trapped in three of them (the others are all dead), although there isn't really anything of interest that they can tell you. Go through the door opposite and kill the Mineral Mephit inside. Speak to the Sewage Golem and claim to be its master.

When it offers to open the doors to the pit, accept and it will go off an unlock the doors that you were previously unable to open, earning you 3000XP. Unlock the chest in here for three Potions of Extra Healing and a Scroll of Dispel Magic. Search for the table for a Longsword +1 and a weapon that depends on what the character you imported was carrying.

If you didn't import a character, the weapon will depend on your PC's weapon proficiencies. The other containers in the room hold a Longbow, a Potion of Healing and a Scroll of Flame Arrow.

Go back north and go through the door that you ignored earlier. There are two Lesser Clay Golems here. You can fight them now or later. If you fight them now you can force attack them one at a time. Each one is worth 2000XP.

Back in the hallways, make your way north and east, killing goblins and go through a door to a library. There are more goblins here along with a Dust Mephit. When the area is clear, search the shelves for jewellery, Oil of Sp
