Route 1

Follow the path along up the hill until you hit the tall grass. When you do, a very frightening Pokemon will appear! Three random Pokemon will then come out to back you up. After that, Professor Kukui will call you over and introduce his Pokemon. Finally, you can choose your starters! Kukui will offer you one of three, giving brief explanations of each.

Starter Information

Rowlet

• Type: Grass/Flying

Litten

• Type: Fire

• Evolutions: Lv.17 Litten → Torracat, Lv.34 Torracat → Incineroar
• Notes: Squishy, 'strike first and hard' type.

Popplio

• Type: Water

• Ability: Torrent
• Moves: Pound, Water Gun, Growl
• Base Stats: HP 50, Attack 54, Defense 54, Special Attack 66, Special Defense 56, Speed 40
• Evolutions: Lv.17 Popplio → Brionne, Lv.34 Brionne → Primarina
• Notes: Balanced, strong Special Attack.

Once you've decided which you'd like, you'll be asked to nickname your Pokemon. Now, Kukui will send you on your way to Iki Town to meet the Island Kahuna. Head to your left through the tall grass. You'll likely run into a wild Pokemon. Afterwards, follow the path up to the crossroads where the sign is.

Move through the tall grass behind the girl to find a Potion. A Pokeball lying on the ground denotes that there's an item there. Pick up the Potion and then continue left until a kid stops you. He'll introduce himself as Hau. Kukui will appear, and Hau will pick whichever Pokemon is weak against your starter. After a bunch of talking, it's time to fight!

Rival Battle: Pokemon Trainer Hau

• If your starter is Rowlet, Hau uses Popplio (Level 5, Water, Moves: Pound, Water Gun, Growl). Reward: $100.
• If your starter is Litten, Hau uses Rowlet (Level 5, Grass/Flying, Moves: Tackle, Leafage, Growl). Reward: $100.
• If your starter is Popplio, Hau uses Litten (Level 5, Fire, Moves: Scratch, Ember, Growl). Reward: $100.

Use the attack that matches your Pokemon's type (Leafage for Rowlet, Ember for Litten, Water Gun for Popplio). If you win, your Pokemon will receive enough EXP to reach at least Level 6.

After the battle, don't immediately head up the stairs. Move to the left through the tall grass to find a Paralyze Heal. Move back and go up the stairs to the north! You'll speak further with Kukui and then be told to visit the guardian deity. Head up the stairs and then left to the forest entrance at the back. Head on in.
