Your first major battle in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon is against Hau in Iki Town! Learn his team, strategies, and how to claim your Z-Ring.

Alright, welcome to Iki Town! It's not a huge place, so let's get straight to the point. Head north and you'll run into Hau. Have a chat with him, then go talk to Kukui, Lillie, and Hala. Hala's going to heal up your Pokémon, which is super convenient. After that, he'll ask if you're ready for a battle. Just say 'Yes' when you're good to go!

Hala will give a little hype speech, and then the battle against your rival, Hau, begins!

The Pokémon Hau uses depend on which starter you picked:

If your starter is Rowlet:

Strategy for the Hau Battle:

This battle is pretty straightforward. Your best bet is to use your starter Pokémon against Hau's starter, as you'll have the type advantage. If you're worried your starter can't handle both Pichu and Hau's Pokémon alone, try using some of the Pokémon you've recently caught as 'meat shields' to weaken Pichu before switching out. Honestly, if your starter is level 8 or even just level 7, you should be fine. The only tricky part is if you picked Popplio, because Pichu has the type advantage against it, so you might need a little extra training in that specific case.

After you defeat Hau, Hala will congratulate you and give you your very own Z-Power Ring! This is awesome because it lets you use super powerful Z-Moves once per battle. Hala explains he made it using a Sparkling Stone and gives you a quick rundown on how Z-Moves work. Basically, you need the right Z-Crystal and a Pokémon with a move that matches the Z-Move's type. It sounds complex, but it's pretty intuitive once you start using them. Don't worry, you'll get to use it soon!

Hala will then mention the Island Challenge, giving you an Island Challenge Amulet. Get ready, because that's where the real adventure kicks off! After some more dialogue, those creepy characters you saw earlier will start following you. You'll then head back home and rest up.

The next morning, Kukui will be waiting for you outside. Go chat with him, and he'll tell you to meet him at his lab. Your mom will give you some money, and then you're off!
