Walkthrough for Pokémon Gold and Silver: Get the Hive Badge and travel to Azalea Town, covering Route 32, Union Cave, and key items like the Old Rod and Miracle Seed.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
After exiting the Pokémon Gym in Violet City, Professor Elm will call. Visit the Pokémon Center and speak to his aide near the counter to receive a Pokémon Egg. Keep this Egg in your party; it will eventually hatch into a Togepi.
  2. 2
If you bring the hatched Togepi to Professor Elm in New Bark Town, he will give you an Everstone, which prevents Pokémon from evolving.
  3. 3
Heal your party at the Pokémon Center.
  4. 4
From Violet City, head south to reach Route 32.
  5. 5
On Route 32, head southeast and speak to the man near the rocky hill to receive a Miracle Seed (a hold item that boosts Grass-type moves by 10%).
  6. 6
Continue south through the grass and battle the trainer.
  7. 7
After this trainer, you'll find two paths: one southwest through grass (leading to a Potion) and a main road path south (leading to another trainer). Both paths converge.
  8. 8
Follow the main path south to another fork. The east path leads to a bridge with trainers, while the south path goes through grass with another trainer. A Great Ball can be found east and north of this trainer.
  9. 9
Both paths converge again at another trainer.
  10. 10
To the southeast, you'll find the entrance to Union Cave. Before entering, if you head north from the last trainer and examine the end of the path, you can find a hidden Great Ball.
  11. 11
Enter Union Cave. Inside the Pokémon Center on Route 32 (located southeast of the trainers), speak to the fisherman near the counter to receive the Old Rod, which allows you to fish for Pokémon.
  12. 12
    Proceed through Union Cave.
  13. 13
After Union Cave, you will reach Route 33, which leads to Azalea Town.
Tips
  • Route 32 is a good place to catch Bellsprout (Grass/Poison) and Mareep (Electric). Wooper (Water) is also available and can help balance Chikorita's weaknesses.
  • Union Cave offers Sandshrew (Ground) for HM use or attacking, and Onix (Rock/Ground) which can be traded to evolve into Steelix.
  • The Old Rod is primarily useful for catching Magikarp, but can be used to fish for other Pokémon in various water bodies.
  • The Ruins of Alph, accessible northwest of Violet City, contain Unown. Catching three and speaking to someone in the lab there unlocks "Unown Mode" in your Pokédex.
  • Pokémon Egg (hatches into Togepi)
  • Miracle Seed
  • Old Rod
  • Great Balls
  • Potions
  • TM39 (Swift)
  • X Attack
  • X Defend
  • Awakening
  • PSNCureBerry
  • Everstone (from Professor Elm after Togepi hatches)
