Pen Romance Guide

Pen is a tall, bulky character usually found at the Church of the Light in Sandrock. He also frequents the main plaza. He is easily recognizable by his flashy outfit. Pen is connected to Burgess, Matilda, Dan-bi, and Miguel. Increasing friendship with these characters also boosts Pen's Friendship Points. Donating to the church daily also grants relationship points: 20 Gols for +2, 200 Gols for +5, and 2000 Gols for +20, all with All Church Members.

Romancing Pen is available from the start. To build friendship, speak with him daily, give gifts, play Critters Spar, and interact with him. Once you reach friend status, you can go on Play Dates. Pen is one of the easier characters to befriend, similar to other Church of the Light members. At three hearts or 400 friendship points, purchase a Heart Knot from the General Store for 128 Gols to give to Pen.

If accepted, Pen will give you the quest Simply the Best, which takes you to Paradise Lost to fight robots with him. Accepting him as your boyfriend during this mission unlocks the Love, Sofa, and Robots furniture recipe, the only way to obtain it.

Pen cannot be married in My Time at Sandrock; he will reject the Engagement Ring. This is because he is revealed to be one of the game's main antagonists. His boyfriend status is removed, and he cannot be obtained again. After Duvos is removed from Sandrock, Pen is arrested and removed from town permanently. Dialogue in jail before his departure confirms his antagonistic role.

Pen likes violence and dislikes guns. His favorite gifts are weapons, but avoid anything associated with them. His 'Likes' and 'Loves' are extensive, so stick to those.

Until you can craft weapons at the Forging Machine, donating to the church and playing Critters are good ways to gain points. Pen also has missions, including one where you make him a new mirror. Once you can craft Steel weapons, they provide ten Friendship Points each and are easy to make after reaching Gecko Station. Alloy Weapons are his favorite, worth 20 Friendship Points, but are costly. Focusing on Pen's social network or daily church donations is often more efficient.
