The plot of Midnight Club: Los Angeles follows a protagonist who moves to Los Angeles and aims to become the City Champ. Starting with one of three initial vehicles, the player must build their reputation through races against regional opponents. Upon defeating these rivals, the player will be challenged by the City Champ, Booke, in a final race. Winning this race makes the player the City Champ, unlocking further championship races against the Champs of all five vehicle classes: Oswaldo, Julian, Lester, Pete, and Marcel. After becoming City Champ, Booke proposes a deal to co-own his garages for $1 million, granting the player access to all vehicles in exchange.
