Alright, let's talk about making your skills really shine in Last Epoch. This is where you start to really customize your character and make them your own. We're diving into Skill Specialization and those all-important Passive Trees. ### Skills Window First off, you've got your Skills Window. This is where you'll see all the abilities you've picked up. At the top, you'll notice five slots for skill specialization. You unlock these slots as you level up: one at level 3, then 9, 19, 34, and finally at level 50. Think of these as your main skill slots where you'll focus your power. When you hover over a skill, you'll get a quick rundown of what it does and, importantly, its Skill Tags. We'll get to those in a bit. Below the skill name, you'll see some connected dots. Clicking those? That's your ticket to the skill's dedicated tree. ### Specialization So, you can pick up to 5 skills to specialize in. Once you do, that skill starts gaining its own Experience, separate from your character's main level. Every time you level up a specialized skill, you get a skill point. You use these points to unlock and upgrade nodes in that skill's tree. The maximum level for a skill is 20, though some items can push that even further. Don't worry if you don't plan on using a specialized skill all the time; you don't have to put it on your active skill bar. #### Despecialization and Minimum Skill Level Changed your mind? No problem. You can freely downgrade a skill to reallocate points or even swap it out entirely. Removing points one by one lowers the skill's level. If you decide to completely remove a skill, you free up that specialization slot for something new. Here's a little heads-up: each specialized skill has a minimum level it can be downgraded to. This ensures you always have some points invested in its tree. To get those points back to reallocate them elsewhere, you'll need to re-level the skill. The good news is that skills get accelerated experience, and this minimum skill level requirement also scales up as your character levels, so it's not a huge grind. ### Skill Tags These are super important! Skill tags are those little descriptors you see when you hover over a skill. They tell you a lot about what the skill does and how it interacts with other game mechanics. You'll see: * Ability Types: Every skill has exactly one of these. Examples include Melee Attack Skills, Bow Attack Skills, Throwing Attack Skills, Spell Skills, and Summon Skills. Summon Skills are a bit special as they don't display an ability type tag. * Damage Types: These tell you what kind of damage the skill deals (like Physical, Fire, Cold, etc.). This is crucial for understanding resistances and how to build your character. * Other Types: These can cover a huge range of things, from buffs and debuffs to movement skills. * Minion Ability Tags: If you're playing a summoner, these tags are vital for understanding how your minions work and how to enhance them.
