How to Beat Lagon

Learn how to defeat Lagon, the final boss of the Ending the Storm Monolith Timeline in Last Epoch. Our guide covers mechanics, strategy, and rewards.

Hey there! So you've made it to Lagon, the big bad at the end of the Ending the Storm timeline. He's definitely one of the tougher bosses in Last Epoch, especially with that one-shot mechanic he's got. But don't worry, with a little know-how, you'll be able to take him down. This fight is all about positioning and reacting quickly to his attacks.

Boss Mechanics Breakdown:

  • Moon Beam (Channel): This is Lagon's most dangerous attack. He'll move to one side of the arena and then sweep a massive lightning and cold damage beam across the entire area. As soon as you see him turn to one side, your immediate goal is to sprint to the opposite edge of the arena. Seriously, get to the very edge!
  • Moon Beam (Hit): This version appears once Lagon hits 65% HP or less. He'll fire the beam directly in front of him. Watch for him to lower his head slightly before he shoots – that's your cue to dodge to the side. It still packs a huge punch with lightning and cold damage.
  • Moon Blast: Lagon will rise up a bit and lift his arms, creating a large white AoE on the ground. You've got a split second to get out of it before it explodes, dealing massive cold and lightning damage.
  • Lightning Strikes: Small lightning circles will pop up all over the arena. There's a slight delay before they detonate, so keep moving to avoid them. They don't hit too hard individually, but it's best to avoid them if you can.
  • Claw Smash: Lagon will lift one of his claws and bring it down. This deals physical damage and can stun you, so be ready to evade when you see him start to raise a claw.

Once Lagon hits 50% health, he'll teleport you to a lower arena for Phase 2.

  • Tentacles: In Phase 2, Lagon disappears and summons tentacles. You need to kill them all to move on to Phase 3. Keep hitting them while dodging their attacks, as they can also stun you. Be aware that other attacks, like small cold waves, will also be coming at you during this phase, so stay sharp!

After the tentacles are dealt with, you'll enter Phase 3. It's pretty similar to Phase 1, but Lagon can now also use the Phase 2 attacks. So, you'll be dodging elemental attacks, his eye beams, and claw attacks all at once.

Encounter Strategy:

Phase 1 happens on a small platform. Your main job here is to dodge those beams and lightning strikes while still getting your hits in on Lagon.

Phase 2 is all about killing those tentacles quickly and avoiding the incoming attacks. Don't get stunned!

Phase 3 is a mix of everything. It's like Phase 1 but with the added pressure of Phase 2 mechanics.

  • Stay Mobile: Seriously, never stop moving. This is crucial, especially during the tentacle phase. Lots of stuff comes at you, and those tentacles can stun you, leaving you wide open.
  • Watch Lagon's Movements: Most of his attacks are telegraphed. If he lifts his claws, looks to the sides, or lowers his head – react! Keeping an eye on him is key to survival.
  • Don't Linger on the Arena Edge: While the edge might seem safe for some attacks, it can actually trap you for others. Keep your movement dynamic.

Recommended Defensive Stats:

  • Aim for 75% Lightning Resistance.
  • Aim for 75% Cold Resistance.
  • High movement speed and skills that let you move quickly are super important. You'll also want solid defensive layers to survive hits you can't avoid.

Unique Rewards:

Lagon can drop some sweet unique items. The common ones are Alluvion and Coral Aegis. You'll get one of these per kill, with a 50% chance for each. They can drop in Normal or Empowered versions, and Corruption doesn't affect their drop rate.

For rarer drops, keep an eye out for Stormcarved Testament, which is more likely at high Corruption in Empowered Monoliths. Eye of Storms is another rare weapon, exclusive to Empowered timelines, and its drop rate also scales with Corruption.
